Hi,

I put up a request to use some space in the car park for a week to make and paint a project i'm working on. It involve pouring some concrete in to buckets to make signs posts. So far no one has objected but someone suggested I could adapt the design to make a bike stand where people could lock their bikes. I can provide the materials and do the work but wanted to sound people out to see if its a good idea or just a waste of space and if its worth it, is the design is okay. I've put a rough sketch below it basically just a steel frame with some buckets of concrete attached to weight it down. My thinking is its sturdy enough to deter most bike thieves but if it needed to be disposed of or moved it would be to much work. What do people think?

We've recently had an offer from the council to pay for free, proper bike stands in our yard, so we should hold off on this at least for the time being.

Will this alter the rate-able value of the carparking spaces? :D

And more importantly, is anyone actively pursuing this? Would be good to have proper ones, but I'd rather not stop Sam's DIY project unless we know we're getting it sorted.

Heya,

the hookup is via me (purely as a middleman) and the awesome
GerryM (who you may have met on the open day) from:

who put me in touch with the guy at the council.  initially I added
Jonty to the conversation, and I guess Russ is involved as the
go-between with the land lord.

site visit should happen start of September.  possibly upto 20 "spaces",
subject to permission from the landlord.

And hy is the council offering to pay?

"don't look a gift horse in the mouth"?
Because its in their remit to provide services to "residents"/ rate payers,
especially ones that boost "green" agendas?
Bicycles are kewl.

Yes, they become rateable cycle spaces. The rate for cycle spaces is 1/8th of that for car spaces, which is supposedly how many
cycles will fit in the same space.

Heya,

I've made an arrangement with
Tower Hamlets Active Travel Office to do
a site survey on the morning of Wednesday 25th
for the possibility of installing upto 20 bike parking places for free.

Exact time to be arranged, so
(especially if your a trustee or other "stakeholder")
speak up now (times you might be available and any
pertinent concerns).

can someone calendar 8:35 to 11:30
with a link to this thread/post for maximum visibility.

I'll do the wiki in a mo.

Hi,

I can be at the space then.

Do you know if we need to do any prep work, e.g. any questions he's likely
to ask?

Likewise I can also be there if you'd like.

ace! what time would you prefer?

I did ask about specifics of what we could have so I could have a
more than cursory think about positioning, but he seems to have
ignored that so far, I'll ask again.

His only stipulation so far was that we had the landlords permission;
Russ says we don't need it.

It'd be nice to have a (scale) plan for discussion, but I think
we'll be fine without one.

Heya,

so the survey has been arranged for 8-9am this Wednesday morning,
I'll be there just before 8am.  Someone from the equipment provider:

should also be there.
