Hi,

Just before emfcamp someone expressed interest in buying the NetApp kit
that we've got. The disk shelves that went to emfcamp are being reformated
right now (I've backed up the stuff that was on them).

So all the netapp kit will be ready to go later this evening. So if you
are still interested please get in touch with me asap :)

Hello Hackspace!

I've just sat down to get some stuff done in the corner by the
stratasys only to discover I am surrounded by crap. This is advance
warning that next Friday (5th November) I am going to hit this like the
fist of an angry god. If it doesn't belong to the space or have an
excuse/recent DNH sticker on it then I will be binning it.

appeal to the list about its storage.

Kisses.

[Subject:] Call to tidy up the Stratasys Corner
[Body:]

Hi everyone!

Hope you are having a great day!

I would like to bring to attention the fact that the stratasys corner is growing increasingly untidy and there has been no attempt to clean it up by those responsible for the mess over the last week. I've taken the liberty of photographing the items in question:

It really upsets me that Hackspace is looking like junk space again after the recent clear out.
Please take/sort out your stuff for the benefit of other users in the space.
How about we give it another week and if it's not collected by then we assume that the items are no longer required and can be safely disposed off after an email to the trustees and with their approval.

Thanks for your understanding

Cheers

Ducks, water, backs etc. I was going more for humour than drama - apologies to anyone it did wind up. Just wanted to give enough notice so that people would know what was going on.

This area has been dramatically improved and is now usable again. A lot of
random looking grot went straight into the bin and anything that looked
useful either went into a box on top of the stratasys or into the three
week bin. A couple of nakkered PCs have been dismantled and the bits
disposed of likewise.

There are a few items of personal kit left there, please remove at the
earliest opportunity.

Please keep this area clear, it is for the use of everyone and should be
available at all times for all of the membership.

Thanks

Phil

I noticed that the two motors and gearboxes I donated for the tank
(https://groups.google.com/d/topic/london-hack-space/k0NrdNLHuLU/discussion)
were still sitting in the Stratasys corner, so I've moved them to the
three week bin. They're good pieces of kit, but I don't want to carry
them back to Cambridge so I'm happy for them to be binned if nobody
wants them.

Throwing things away is a repugnant feature of an excessively
consumerist society.

We're a hackspace. We repair or repurpose things, not throw away the
most interesting ones.

We do need more space, but the stratasys isn't even using much, and
what it is isn't very useful for other things. The only immediate use
I can thing of for that alcove is storing the vast piles of that
disgusting drink we occasionally inflict on ourselves.

The worst space shortage is for working on things. At the moment, the
workshop is relatively tidy and in fact quite useable. We could
improve it by using shelving for the boxes of unwanted cables near the
lathe, removing the unwanted sheet stock that's continuing to creep
across the fire exit, and most of all, tidying up when we finish jobs.

Is the Stratasys not working again?  What's wrong with it?

If you guys ever break it to the point where it is good for nothing more than throwing away, I will take the head!!!

If i understood Hipster correctly, there was a problem with the modern
recipes of filament being overcooked by the hot end that was designed
for the old-recipe filament.

As the extruder nozzle got blocked, the filament backed up, and
splurged out of the sides. It also overcooked, so it ended up with a
texture almost like glass, though without the brittleness. Very hard-
wearing, and tough material. It took a lot of dremeling to get the
stuff off.

It would be interesting to make this effect deliberately. Not sure
what the correct balance of temperature and pressure would be. Baking
the prints afterwards might work. The bits that i looked at had a
completely different feel to the normal PLA/ABS. Different density,
different structural integrity. It would mean you'd be able to make
stronger prints with a little post-processing.

Chris also fabricated a couple of replacement parts, that we couldn't
get spares for.

hey yall,

sorry for late post, couldn't see in main list page.

After talking to a few people at the 3Dprint show Artag and myself have decided to strip the electronics out and replace with modern ones (http://shop.seemecnc.com/RAMBo-All-In-One-board-by-UltiMachine-RAMBO.htm) and two modern extruders. At the moment it is just using space, but would be EPIC when we get this mod working.

Sorry again for late reply

Hipster inadvertently posted this in another thread :
That's not exactly my view, I have a very low opinion of most of the
hobbyist reprap electronics and the Rambo doesn't look (on a quick
glance) much different. The main thing I did agree with hipster on is
that it would be worth building a replacement head using hobby
technology. Perhaps more that one head, all using the same basic
mechanics.

But my main reason for fighting this sort of change on the Stratasys
last time it came up was that I felt repairing it hadn't been given a
proper chance. That's now been done, and since Hipster's done most of
the work / paid the costs I don't feel I've got any right to push a
different view.

Having said that, if there are people who feel they can repair the
existing head I'd encourage them to talk about it.

Please agree a schedule though, so we can have a proper discussion
about whether it's being used or taking up pointless space. Pointless
sniping about it pisses me off, as you can see from earlier in this
thread.

Bizarre ..

In google groups, it's in the the thread
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!searchin/london-hack-space/stratasys$20corner/london-hack-space/UjLuveretFw/Q6jcD_G4cwcJ

Which is probably this one.

But in gmail, where I normally read the hackspace list, there are two
threads (which I can't link as you'd need to be logged in), one titled
'stratasys corner; and another titled 'NetApp file server and disk
shelves'

So I have no idea how it appears to anyone else.

I don't recommend running PA-747 on the Stratasys - it sucks for Stratasys machines!  You're much better running the PP3DP Up! filament, which is very close to the Stratasys P400.  The PA-747 is much more viscous and likes lower temperatures (as a result, it takes a lot more torque to drive it through).
