I have an old K40 CO2 laser cutter that is now surplus to requirements.
If anyone wants it they can have it, bearing in mind:

- It was bought in 2016 and still technically works
- The control board is Moshidraw 2015, notably this is too old to be
supported by K40 Whisperer. I would strongly recommend upgrading the
control board, I just never got around to it
- The tube has been replaced twice. There is probably still plenty of
life left in the tube as I never ran it at high current
- The laser power supply was replaced only last year and is basically new
- It has a DIY air assist upgrade, with a tiny air pump, could benefit
from an upgrade
- It needs water cooling, I just had a 5L container of water under the desk
- It needs a new extractor hose

The whole thing is quite grotty after years of laser cutting residue.
With a cleanup and a new control board, possibly new optics if you're
feeling fancy, this could provide many more years of cutting. Or, if
someone wants to harvest the parts or convert it into a hand-held laser
cannon I guess that's fine too.

Main thing to note is that I can't provide much support, I'm giving this
away (or to the dump if no one wants it) on condition I won't be hassled
for help with it.

I also have a k40 I'm not using. The two together might make one decent unit.

Hi there, I'd be interested in both these units. I've messaged you both, let me know if you'd like to work out a time for me to pick up!

All the best,
Tripp

Hello,

We could be interested by one of this small laser cutter to go to Amberley community space (W9 2JZ).

This would be to run a small afterschool craft club. With Anna who already runs a afterschool cooking club, we’ll ask the Westminster council for authorisation to keep some tools there (the size of a small bench/desk) for a laser cutter, a 3d printer I’ll donate and a few hand tools.

Anna is in copy, her email is an...@thirdsectormedia.org.uk

Kind regards,
Claude

I think they might be spoken-for now (not quite sure about Tim's). They'd also have needed a bit of work beyond regular maintenance - is that something you'd be able to do ?

It's taken now.

Daniel - sorry, looks like you responded first but I saw Tripp's (off list) message first.

Claude - for an afterschool club you would probably do much better with one of the newer diode laser cutters. They avoid the need for a delicate glass tube and fiddly optical alignment, the only downside is they're a bit slower and can't cut clear acrylic.
