Hi, I would like to laser cut letters from an Unlined Greyboard FSC 715x1015mm 1900micron (1195gsm). I want to cut out big stencils, which I can spray.

The Laser Cutter/Cutting Parameters advice cardboard 170-300 Weight (gsm). Can I still use the greyboard or is it pointless as it's too thick/heavy? I did just laser cut perspex, so no experience on card nor paper. Happy for any tips! Thank you. Cat

Hi there,

I'm assuming that, since this was back in Feb, then you have worked it out.

I regularly laser cut card and greyboard for stencils as it is a quick and painless excercise compared to hand cutting. I find that a 2 mm board is great and durable for repeat use on small image runs.

If the cuts aren't bridged correctly then this can lead to the stencil being flimsy and you can't always achieve extremeley small detail.

I hope that helps.

I would be interested to know what your experiences were and any other info on materials for cutting.

I use a lot of my stencils for repeat images and text on commercial projects, but I would like to explore more laser cutting and engraving for my own art projects.

Best

Daryl
