We are proposing to get rid of the drinks fridge currently taking up space in the wood shop. Does anybody have an issue with this? Or conversely does anybody want it? If nobody speaks up regarding keeping it or makes an offer to take it away we will look at selling it somewhere.

Kind Regards

Tinnerz

Why not put drinks in it ?

It’s far too large for our purposes for one, and there is a fridge in the communal kitchen members are welcome to put things in whilst they are here.
It’s taking up space that’s needed in the wood shop, and there isn’t realistically anywhere else for it to go

But everyone potentially uses drinks, and only woodworkers use the woodshop. What is to replace it ?

I like it and I think Toby does too. I often use it to find small bits of wood.
An alternative use for it is as a PPE fridge.
If the space does decide to get rid of it I'd be happy to have it if someone can transport it for me to my place half an hour away. UB47EX. Happy to offer £20 for fuel. 🤠

As it’s currently in use for wood storage, the space may well be used for wood storage but more efficiently.
It’s been in the space the entire time we have been at EX2 and never once been plugged in by anyone let alone drinks stored in it. Keeping it because theoretically I could be used but demonstrably it is not makes no sense to me.
Again, there is a fridge members can use in the kitchen

The point of the drinks fridge was not for members to keep drinks, but to sell drinks to members.
It may or may not be required, or perhaps should be smaller.
I assumed it hadn't been plugged in because we had nothing to put in it (club mate order is unmaintained). I agree it's poor use of space for storage of wood but woodwork already has more space than any other activity.
If  a general facility is no longer to be used and can be discarded, you shouldn't assume that the space that creates is available for woodworking.

The space it currently takes up is in the woodshop. It is currently used to store wood.  Why exactly would you assume that space would become dedicated to anything other than woodworking?

Because it was originally placed there for lack of anywhere else to put it. It was only used for wood because it wasn't in use.

If the fridge goes the space should be used for wood turning tools and equipment instead of it just being piled in a box! 🤠

Right.  It was placed *in the woodshop* because there was no other space.  It's taking up woodshop space (albeit being used to store a little wood to provide at least some woodshop value).  When it goes that remains part of the woodshop.  Why is this even a discussion?

It was placed there before there even was a woodshop.

It was *left* there after the space was dedicated to the woodshop.

Would it make you feel better to first move it say to near the 3D printers before we throw it away?

Would it make you feel better if the space was used for the wood-only CNC machine ?

May I play devil's advocate here for a moment: Assume it was to resume duties* as a drinks fridge, who will have to monitor stock levels, then order more and replenish the stock?

*has anyone tested the fridge to see if it still gets cold? Refrigerant can and does leak, rendering a fridge useless.

If it's felt that the CNC should be in the woodshop then why not?

I think it would be, not least because it makes an awful noise and  really needs extraction. Like all the other woodworking machinery. I think it's only in the general room because it suffered the same 'here now, discuss later' that was completely appropriate at the time but might need reviewing.
It's bigger than the drinks fridge, though, so beware, you'll suffer a net reduction in space.

I wouldn't suffer anything.  Why make this personal?

The CNC and the Fridge are completely separate discussions.  This isn't a "tit for tat".

There are two separate decisions.  They are:

- should the Fridge be removed (from wherever the hell it happens to be right now).
- should the CNC be moved into the woodshop

You're coming over as a supporter of the concept of making more space in the woodwork area. If that's not the case, I apologise.

Making space in one area, perhaps at a cost to another area is always an issue. They can't be separated. The CNC isn't the only option so to that extent I agree. But moving the CNC is absolutely a big issue, once but only once it's back in use.
