Next thought... :)

Is anyone interested in Infiniband?

I could do a basic intro/training session some time in the next
month or two, bringing in hands on gear to do a proper intro/training
workshop (on RHEL/CentOS) if there's interest. :)

Regards and best wishes,

Hi Justin,

Yes please. Count me in. I worked with this at my last job, but there is plenty to learn regarding OFED, SDP, VERBS, and all manner of stuff, and one rarely gets to understand the fundamentals properly on the job.

I'd also be up for this!

I'd be interested, but it's a bit of a strange topic for the hackspace... Is infiniband used for anything apart from supercomputers?

It's very cheap on eBay these days, so a lot of people that
like fast networking use it in their home labs. :)

eg: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360657396651

(I'm not affiliated with that eBay seller, etc)

It's used in financial trading environments (although it's largely being
phased out in favour of 10Gb Ethernet) - mostly due to it's latency
properties rather than throughput.

There is at least one financial exchange who are moving to an InfiniBand
solution for connecting co-located clients into their matching engine
network.
