I'll be volunteering at the Big Bang Fair in London this weekend - it's one of the biggest science education fairs in the country.

I aim to introduce hackerspaces/the maker movement to attendees. I'll have some room on the UKSEDS table (UK Students for Exploration and Development of Space), and would love to show off some projects to get people hooked on the idea of what a hackerspace is.

I'm thinking something that'd be fun for kids to play with. I'm assuming foot traffic will be moving quite fast so it'll have to attention grabbing and compelling. Something like a Makey Makey fruit piano or something like that.

Let me know if you've got anything you'd like to show off, and I'll try to arrange to meet you and take it there.

Cheers,
Alex C-G (the SpaceGAMBIT guy)

you could grab a power supply and the suped-up nerf gun off the shelf in the main area as an easy one for kids.

@David - I like :) Only worry would be losing the Nerf ammo. Is it cheap or easy to replace? How powerful is the nerf gun btw?

Some other stuff that'd be really awesome:
1. A folding table if anyone's got one
2. Other hackery projects. A useless machine would be fun
3. Any London Hackspace publicity material. I'd love to get the word out

I can return everything on Monday, after the event is over

I'll probably swing by tomorrow afternoon or evening to pick up the Nerf gun :)

Not sure I'll have time to print many out :( besides, there'll likely be thousands attending so printing would get expensive fast.

No signs/banners?

just a thought: are you taking any of the things from the cabinet of curiosities?

There's some 3d printed and  laser cut stuff and the super high powered wisk (another fun one to show off)

are there any photos of hipsters tank or other big projects?

@Metz - looking forward to it - we'll be at the UKSEDS table.

I'll come by to the space this evening (maybe around 9pm) - would love to use the vinyl cutter to help make a sign. I've got a big piece of card and think I've converted everything correctly, but I may still need a hand if anyone can lend one. Haven't used a vinyl cutter before.

I'll also have a brivet through the cabinet of curiosities and may borrow some of the non-phallic items. Will bring them back on Monday

For anyone coming to the Big Bang Fair, I'll be showing off the stuff on Saturday at UKSEDS table in the section with all the space industry in NA2. I may also be there on Sunday, or at least leave some of the stuff there for the other team members to look after (including my fruit-powered lunar lander game)

Ack. Couldn't make it today. Family issues. Will try to come by tomorrow eve and pick up some stuff to exhibit on the Sunday.
