So, unless you have some burning interest to learn about RFID and invest a fuckload of time and money, or you know someone who has, I would recommend you just pay the apartment complex's $80 fee (or whatever stupidly expensive price they are asking for your card) for replacement or additional keys. It will probably be cheaper than buying the equipment.

I cannot really afford to spend that much time and / or money.

(some of the items are not in the UK, need to ship from China)

Although some very old card types can be copied, almost all of the modern ones can't be. So, you couldn't clone the card number onto another card.

The reason most locksmiths struggle with this is that they have proprietary equipment that is specific only to particular manufactures so they don't hack it, they use a expensive paid proprietary service to clone the fob.

Do you have an experience with cloning keyfobs?

I'd be infinitely grateful if someone could show me how it is done...

My freeholders although they only charge £30 for a replacement fob,  refused to issue a second one because I live alone. *sigh*

After some googling,  I used this lot,  it took 10 seconds and they charged me a tenner per fob.

I had my building fob copied at the key-cutting place near Bethnal Green tube (because it's the closest one to home) for something like five or six pounds, which was a lot easier and more convenient than trying to do it myself, so it's probably worth a look at your local key shop to see if they also copy them.

I have a copier that supports the most common types, worked for a
friend's door fob and the work alarm system but didn't work on another
alarm system I tried.

I won't be around the hackspace any time soon though, if it is
convenient for you to get to Ealing then I can give it a try.

This one:
https://www.banggood.com/RFID-125KHz-ID-Card-Copier-Writer-with-5-Writable-Tags-and-5-Cards-p-946204.html?rmmds=myaccout-bottom-viewhistory

Very basic, but seems to do the job most of the time.
