Saturday night I fitted a new pump to the laser cutter. During a test
run the laser stayed cool while running. There is also a LED digital
display on the laser-cutter now that show the temperature of the water
tank.

Plans are underway for an analog thermal monitor that will ring a bell
should the water exceed the safe temperature.

Until the electrics get organised you need to plug-in and unplug the
pump.

Is the pump incompatible with coolbot? I will be at the hackspace this coming weekend to get coolbot in ship shape condition if work is needed to get the new pump integrated.

Off topic slightly,

I saw some nice artwork at a Christmas fair. It was shapes and artwork
cut out of Uk coins.

Would the laser cutter be capable of making holes in coins and is the
software good enough for detailed designs?

Also what software would you use to design artwork away from the laser
cutter and then transfer it to the cutter when finished.

The laser can't cut metal. It's an over-clocked laser-engraver.

While it can't cut metal, engraving is possible, if you use the
correct engraving solution. Have a look at Russ's laptop for a nice
example.

If you look on the hackspace wiki, you'll see what the laser is
capable of doing.

Since it's now working, we'll probably start the inductions on the
cutter again.

The first test circuit for the analogue alarm got built last night with
the expert help of Gavin and Jose, It now needs to be calibrated and
installed, which is today's plan...

Ok cheers guys.

It would be good to get inducted on it in the future.

Do we run makerbot inductions to? I'm tempted by the idea of building
a reprap in 2012.

Yes we do. I'll be around Tuesday evening.
