Hello all,

For at least a week a car (KS54 CJZ) has been parked in space 67, it doesn't seem to have moved. I have asked in the space several times but no one seems to know who the owner is.

It seems to be being left in the space while its owner is not here, and also seems to be left over night.

It appears to also be uninsured as investigation by the irc channel has shown.

Is this your car? It seems that this has been left in the hackspace's parking space without the user being here, and the person not having informed the mailing list or anyone that I have spoken to.

Is it using one of the parking permits too?
And if it doesn't belong to anyone, what can we turn it into? :3

It is using a hackspace permit.

Use the three week box rule on it.

So can we declare it as honorarily "in the 3-week box" yet? ;)

I think a slightly different system is needed for such large items.

Fit the three week wheelclamp.

I'd be in favour of that, if we can legally do it, and provided we really can't identify the person first. Clamp/chain the car (in a visible manner) and attach a note with a phone number.

Take wheel off and put the car on bricks? :D

Boring suggestion, but maybe
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_10016794 if it's
causing a real problem?

Alternatively, drill a hole through it and bolt it to the floor.

You need a licence to operate as a clamper, and probably also
permission from Workspace. Not likely to be worth pursuing.

This feels a lot like suggesting the usual "tech solution to social
problem" but.. why don't we keep a record of members numberplates? We
must already have something in place for data-protection of member
information. Surely it could be tagged to that for admins to access if
needed and privately poke the owner?

Only if you charge for release.

Have people tried asking around the space, IRC? Also - could it be one
of the occupy people?

Danny, as stated in my original message, I have asked in the space multiple times, and IRC. And I think the chances are that the owner isn't a mailing list subscriber, or is ignoring this thread.

Ill bet if we tell the clamping people it is a unauthorised use of the permit they will clamp it up quicker than a tory nipple in a s&m party

True - but now its been noted here, perhaps given them a few more days
grace before letting the clampers loose on them. Clampers are
merciless gits.

Sod it, crack the window open and let nature takes its course

But then we'd loose the parking permit. :(

Hi guys,

The car in question is mine.

I hadn't joined this mailing list until today so I didn't realise
anyone was concerned.
I'm gathering parts to do a clutch repair job. There's been
complications hence the long parking. I got the parts but because they
are used the fitting by garage won't be covered so have had to place
another order for new parts. The mechanic on the corner is sorting it
out.

Hoping to take it away by end of this week 27 Jan or sooner if the
mechanic does the works.

Any questions or further concerns please call me on 07966223202.

There are 2 spaces empty so no reason to hack.

Many thanks,

Hamid

Hi Hamid,

Thanks for the reply and information.  I think this demonstrates how fundamentally important it is that people let the list or IRC know when anything is going on that could affect others.

I don't think it's fair to use up one full space without asking first: if one more person happens to drive down this weekend (I already know of two), they'll have to find paid parking elsewhere.  We'd normally agree a donation for a long-term occupation of the space.

I also hope you'll be getting it insured before you drive it away.
