Hi My little old machine will not post. The spec is

GPU: Asus GEFORCE GTX

PSU: Corsair HX1200

Memory: Corsair CMK 16GX4M2B3200C 16  (2 off)

CPU: Ryzen AMD Ryzen 5 5600 X

Can anyone swap out and try the motherboard with a compatible CPU? I just want to find out what I need to replace, the motherboard or CPU. The Power supply is OK I am pretty sure. I can travel to yours if you dont want to meet up at the space....

please PM me if you are able to help....

Many thanks,

James

Hi James,

Sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs, but are you any post codes either beeps or on a display on the motherboard?

You don't say what the motherboard is but I'm pretty sure that CPU support graphics on chip so make sure you get no display signal by connecting the motherboard graphics out.

It could be bad memory so refer to your motherboard manual for what slot to use (or just try every combination as there aren't going to be more than 10) and try booting with a single stick of RAM with both to rule out that. If it was a bad drive or something else it would still post.

Also I assume you have changed nothing recently? AMD supported the same socket type for some time and motherboards from 8 years ago could run more re recent chips (all be it not at 100% of their potential) but the BIOS couldn't support all the CPUs at the same time, so if the CPU or motherboard are recently changed it could be the BIOS  they ran isn't one that supports that chip (if its an older motherboard) and you need an older CPU to allow you to update the BIOS to run with your current CPU.

Afraid I can't help with testing as while I have an old Ryzen build in the cupboard its a 1600X so while the socket is still the same I think the BIOS wouldn't support it.

Hope some of that helps.

Kind regards
Ant

Oh my ... you were just too late.
Due to a error .. amazon had sent me two msi x570 gaming motherboards and a ryzen 9 5900x .. having checked my bank account.. that i paid for just one .. not two.. and ofc i contacted amazon.  They never collected it .. that was 5months ago .  And this motherboard/cpu   was .never opened.
Ofc checking the spec its was compatible with a ryzen 9  5900x .but needed a bios update .  Unfortunately last week I sold both on a selling app. However .. the one I installed works perfect ofc with the bios update.. sorry I couldn't help you sooner

I have a very very similar problem, also with AMD and B550M.

Maybe we should come together in a joint debugging session?

Robert
