Hi hackers!

Arcola Theatre is doing a show with fuel cell powered lighting and
we've got our hands full with the power supply.

We also need a 10 channel DMX controller for 10 lights, there doesn't
seem to be any products on the market that run off 24v, which is what
our fuel cell will supply

Anyone know if one of these exists? Or maybe you've built one?

Thanks!

Matt

You're powering lights off it?  Wow...

An arduino can do this, depending on what you need.  I'd be happy to help if that's the way you decide to go...

how much power does it need to output?

How many amps per light ? And is it simple on/off or more complex ? If it is less than a few Amps and mostly on/off - a simple arduino/mosfet or even easier, relays, may tide you over.

great thanks, looks good, but can't find any UK suppliers. Do you know
if I could get some of these in the UK?

Low power DC lights hopefully!

Yeah, I just don't want to do it! I ideally want something already
done or off the shelf because we're on a super tight deadline (like
always!). Thanks for the offer though!

We've already got working systems.  Do you have any more information on deadline, number of cues, etc?

Of course, if by DMX controller you mean the DMX-controlled dimmer, an arduino wouldn't be enough.  Are you saying you already have a lighting desk of some kind?

Perhaps give http://picprojects.org.uk/projects/dmx/dmx688/index.htm a call - they may have some in stock.

Another option - if you are really on 12V or 24V and nothing else are Power Commanders. They seem to be available in the UK from quite a few places:

http://www.elektoled.co.uk/PhpCatalog/33,0,constant-voltage-dmx-modulated.html
http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=VCOLEDC52&product=Visio_Color_Mood_Power_Commander_(LED-PC300)
http://prolight.co.uk/item/LEDC52/

and find one of the older ones which take 24V in or modify the newer types by bypassing the build in 240->24V circuit. Older models are like

http://www.tronix.nl/html/artikelgroep.aspx?artikelgroepcode=GEN0000007
eg
http://www.tronix.nl/html/artikel.aspx?artikelgroepcode=GEN0000152&artikelcode=L-CNTR-12-24-DMX

which take 12 or 24V in. Searching for flexistrip dimmer should yield a plenty.

HGVs generally run off 24V.

As a result, there are various products made for that market that will
convert 24->12 or 24->240V.

24->12 will be more efficient if you can obtain a 12V DMX controller,
but make sure you get the more expensive switching converters - there
are cheap ones available that waste a lot of power.

yes sorry, completely unclear here. We need a 10 channel DMX dimmer.
Each bulb is 50W running at 24v.
The dimmer needs to run at 24->28v.

I'd be up for building this for you, time constraints permitting.

When do you need it for? What's your budget (for materials)?
