android lock screen bug advice request

This is one for any android developer/mobile software engineer out there: 

I have experienced a sudden change from PIN/fingerprint to "password" (unclear which) unlock authentication presumably following android update . I am locked out as a consequence

can anyone help? anyone have any tips?
