I have Sketchup .skp files I am trying to import to SolidWorks as a 3D model.

I'm trying to keep the sub-assemblies intact.

Any recommendations for file format or conversion programs?

Thanks

Do you have Google Sketch up installed?

If so can you export to .STEP format?
Solidworks will be able to import this.

cloudconvert.com should do it.

Cloud Convert was a no-go - none of the output files from Sketchup was compatible.

I've managed to convert it to STL, but this loses all the subgroups into one solid model.

There's no STEP or IGES export option :/

I was able to use Rhino3D to import the .SKP to convert to .STP, which can then be imported to SolidWorks.

A few hoops to jump through, but got it working.

I believe Fusion 360 (which is free, but cloud orientated, and will require installing) can easily convert 'skp' files to most CAD file formats. Bear in mind 'skp's are very similar to STLs so don't really have sub-assembly hierarchies.
