Hello all,

I'm putting in an order with one of my Chinese suppliers for a load of mini snap together component storage boxes for holding all my SMD chips. (you can use them so much more than just electronics!) With buying them direct its much cheaper than through lovely people like adafruit, the smallest box being only 15p

A quick poll or IRC showed interest in getting in on the order, so I have thrown up a wiki page here: http://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Orders/SMD_Boxes

Check it out if your interested and add your name to the list there if you want to get in on the order.

Hugs

Sol

Are the black variety anti-static?

I remember seeing comments saying the lids snap off frequently after several operations.

Nope, but if people are interested I can look into getting some of those too. Personally I use an anti static wipe with them and have had no problems with storing static sensitive components, but of cause ymmv.

True, if you buy the cheap knock offs.

This supplier is used by one of the big sites that sell them, so I don't anticipate any problems like this.

Very very tempting! And the price seems extremely cheap.
Will have a think on quantities and sizes I'd make use of.

The smallest seem a bit too small for regular LEDs and #2 too big but
best option?

Due to me falling asleep at a reasonable time last night I failed to put in the order, so if anyone would still like to grab some please add yourself http://wiki.london.hackspace.org.uk/view/Orders/SMD_Boxes

Afraid for my purposes I found a cheaper option and grabbed a bunch of
7-day pill boxes off ebay. Not exactly professional looking, but will do
me fine.

Quick update, the order is placed and on its way. There are currently 6.5kg of smd storage boxes on their way to the UK :) Will update when I have more news.
