Hello, I'm the author of crawlr which I noticed you are using in your
dojo hacking sessions. Great! I am standing by if you have any
questions concerning the code, but keep in mind I abandoned the
project a year ago and have since been rewriting it from scratch.
Depending on your schedule, I may be able to participate over Skype
(I'm in the U.S.).

Hey axion,

This is great. I sort-of help organise the dojo (the organisation of
the dojo emerges from the members in an ad-hoc fashion) so perhaps we
can coordinate a Skype session..? The next dojo of tomorrow between
6:60-10pm UK time. Not sure how that fits with your schedule.

Basically, Tim Golden will be doing a deep-dive presentation on the
*new* engine you've created. We'll then split into groups with each
group solving a specific task. At the end of the evening we all
present our code and discuss what happened. It's social coding in real
life (who needs GitHub)... ;-)

The aim is to produce some sort of game engine/world that we can
occupy with software bots. Bruce Durling (who also helps out at the
dojo) is trying to organise an inter-language dojo for which *we* (the
Python dojo) are creating the engine with the aim of bots written in
Java, Clojure, Scala, Erlang etc... joining in the game. Collaborative
learning ftw!

Perhaps Bruce will fill you in on his plans for intergalactic dojo domination...

Let me know about Skype potential...

Nicholas.

Thanks for the support. After a brief discussion, it looks like
we'll be switching to your axengine2. I had a look this morning
and it's clearly much better / cleaner. I'm presenting tomorrow
evening (Thu 3rd Feb) to the Python Dojo with an intro on PyGame
Sprites and an overview of the axengine2 codebase.

Hi,

can we put you on a laptop linked up to skype? People could come up
to you and ask questions :)

Here's a meeting planner... depending on where you are in the US,
maybe it will be starting at 10am your time:

Sure, my Skype is name mike.fiano. I am somewhat available during your next dojo. I work from 8pm-2am (London time).

Axengine2 is in a state close to that of crawlr, but much easier to follow and work with. I am interested in working with your group to help shape the engine to make it the most user and hacker-friendly as possible, and to gather ideas for improvement over crawlr early on. The truth is, I taught myself gamedev, pygame, and even python itself with crawlr due to no good resources (aside from Rene's "making games, making webs" anyway ;))

Hi Michael,

OK... having a Skype call with you during the dojo would be great. I'm
assuming you're saying you're free until 8pm UK time..? The social
part of the dojo is between 6:30-7:30 and Tim is kicking off at
7:30ish with presentation / review of the code. I'm assuming the 7:30
time would be a good time to Skype in..?

Let me know how this sounds...

Nicholas.

Hi Michael,

So we're in the dojo eating pizza and Tim's presentation is starting
in 15 mins. If you're about I'm on Skype as "ntollervey".

Ping me if you're about. :-)

Nicholas.

Sorry, I got called into work early today. I won't be able to Skype in. I am available for questions through email.

Cool...

We're coding things right now and will be doing a show and tell in
about 1hr 1/2. It'll be during the show/tell that people will have
questions I can ping over to you.

Nicholas.

FWIW I plan to start (at 7.30pm-ish) with a brief intro to PyGame
basics: rects, surfs & sprites, before moving onto an (also brief)
overview of the axengine2 codebase.
