Hi Biohackers,

(Apologies... this email has been sitting in my drafts folder for a month or so, and the content is pretty old, and more things have happened since ...) But Lots of interesting stuff happened, so here they are...

Consumables replenished... iGEM 2015 kit arrived

We got a delivery of blue-roll, and medium lab gloves. Some metal iGEM badges are available!

Not one, but two shaking incubators

Thanks to Edo and Ed P, we got two stuart Orbital shakers in various states of brokenness. However after some research into AC induction motor controllers and with help from Andy of the metal bashers we have them both working.

I think this is a pretty substantial lab capability upgrade!

Tepnel DNA purification Robot

We received a Tepnel DNA purification system from a lab that was being decommissioned at the University of Exeter by Dr Amber Griffiths. It boots up and initial tests seem good.

We have the manual in pdf and we need to obtain or make up the buffers and consumables to start using it properly.

I think to make best use of it, it would be good if there was a project lead with some mini-prep experience to take on the role of maintainer. Any volunteers?

2015 London iGEM bootcamp

Ilya and Edo helped organize the 2015 London iGEM bootcamp, and there were a couple of sessions on biohacking and electronics held in the classroom at the hackspace.

There were lots of good photos taken by Jack of people in classic "science lab" scenes..

There were a couple of youtube videos of the shakers, but gmail stripped them out.

Here are the links;
