Toprint from a machine in a classroom or study area, simply send your work to the printer PrintCloud, and then log in and collect it from any York Print Plus device. If you're using your own device, you'll need to add the print queue the first time that you want to print - see the setup guides below for instructions. We also offer ePrint, which allows you to email your documents to print, or upload them via a webpage.
You only pay the colour rate for pages that actually contain colour. This means you can send a mixed document (some black & white, some colour pages) to print, and not be charged the higher colour rate for every page.
When you print a mixed document, the charging can be a little confusing. Although we have a standard price list (see above), the actual breakdown of charging can be a little difficult for you to work out.
Our multi-function devices (MFDs) allow you to print, copy and scan your documents, with options to print in A4, A3, colour or black and white, and to collate and staple your documents. Not all devices offer all of these features - see the table below for details.
Some devices are available with features to aid wheelchair users, including tilting screens (available on all student devices) to enable you to print, and lower devices to allow copying and scanning access.
There are A4/A3 colour printers accessible to wheelchair users in the Library: they are located on the ground floor of the Morrell Building, near the Library and IT Help Desk, and Law & Management Building.
This list shows devices provided by IT Services. Departments also have their own devices, some of which are in public areas and available to students - staff in your department will be able to advise.
Copying guidelinesPrinting is available remotely through personal laptops and other devices as well as from all library computer workstations. York University YU-Cards or guest cards are required to release print jobs and there are several locations where you can pick up your printouts throughout all branches.
Print charges are 10 per page for black and white printing and 25 per page for colour printing. YU-cards and Guest cards can have cash options for funds added for printing via the YU-card fill stations by the Print and Copy Centre and credit card options are available online at the YU-card website.

Today traditional printing may be on thin ice - it can be found on the red list of endangered crafts - but Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print is building a community and creating opportunities for dedicated creatives and curious minds alike to ensure it thrives for the next 500 years, not just preserving the past but bringing it to life.
Across the year we will run workshops on techniques including lino printing, screen and fabric printing, etching and lithography while also collaborating with the uni's very own Thin Ice Press studio to provide training using old traditional letterpress printing machines including our lovely Adana.
Waited too long to renew your license or registration document? Need your new document right away? No problem! Save yourself the trip to the DMV and print a temporary license or registration document instantly when you renew or replace online.
These training videos are for specific models and may be very helpful in how to use your new printing devices from Xerox. Initial training on use of each device is provided during the installation of your new Xerox printer.
Thin Ice Press: the York Centre for Print is building a community and creating opportunities for dedicated creatives and curious minds alike. Our exhibitions and activities secure the future of traditional printing techniques, not just preserving the past but bringing it to life.

So far, we've secured more than 185,000 in funding. Building on our successful letterpress printing studio Thin Ice Press, and groundbreaking StreetLife project, we have established a working pressroom, museum and gallery in the centre of York to preserve an ancient craft, create volunteering and employment opportunities, and build community. Along with our members and supporters, we're securing the future of traditional printing, not just preserving the past but bringing it to life.
In our current soft launch phase, our well-equipped workspace is welcoming its first members: artists, writers and printers, who are supported by an expert team. We're building a programme of free, family-friendly activities, exhibitions, and demos. And we're showing how heritage techniques can offer new opportunities for modern creatives, opening up the mysteries of printing to diverse audiences and a new generation.
But our current landlords have broken our lease. From the beginning of December, our vibrant, well-equipped printing workshop won't have a home. We have the chance to move into a beautiful historic building and build a long term future, but we're in a race against time. 30,000 will pay for specialist movers to take us out of our current premises and into a superb new venue that will delight visitors and be a haven for members.
We have a huge amount to do, but we know with the help of committed supporters like you, we can overcome the challenges we face and create a secure future for traditional print in York. Your support will allow us to fulfil our ambitions of delivering a top secret, very exciting collaboration that is lined up to help the centre build contingency funds, increase technician time, and expand our capacity to support print and printers locally and globally.
With your support, our working pressroom, gallery and museum will sustain this ancient craft, celebrate the best of contemporary printing, and become a place of pilgrimage for visitors with a passion for print, both locally and from across the globe.
The craft of printing has shaped nearly six hundred years of history. I hope you will help us to save this extraordinary heritage, and make a new future for print, creativity and craft. Every penny of your donation will be used to directly support the Centre, with no administrative charges or hidden costs, and you will be given the option to select a reward to say thank you for your incredible support.
