Installing the CADExchanger Workbench allows for working with DWG files through integration with the paid commercial file converter product CADExchanger. Just follow the instructions in the GitHub repository. You can discuss this workbench on its forum thread.

Hi guys,
I developed a FreeCAD workbench for converting CAD files to GDML a few years ago. It works nicely and has been used in many projects. I would like to share it with the geant4 community.
Its source code can be found on the github repo : GitHub - drhlxiao/g4cad: A freecad plugin which allows exporting CAD models to geant4 gdml files

Although conversion from a mesh to a parametric solid (so it could be exported as a STEP file) may not be possible in general, it can be done for simple cases. See the image below that shows a rectangular solid with a cylindrical hole in it in Blender and Alibre. Alibre is an inexpensive parametric modeler that included a mesh to parametric converter through the 2018 version. As you can see in the image, even for this simple case, the conversion is not perfect. The converter has been removed from more recent versions because of the limitations of the conversion.Para-Mesh1362545 17.6 KB

Typically CNC doesnt use STL, they use DXF, STEP, IGES those formats better translate to Gcode then triangle formats such as STL, OBJ, Blend, some programs such as freecad can convert formats but not optimal (they still keep it as a typical blender triangle file).

I am trying to write a converter for converting a .STEP file to a .USB file. I want to make this a standalone application with python. I know that it is possible in the GUI of Isaac Sim but I want to do it in a standalone application. Is that possible?

I use Freecad to export to .STEP. Its free and relatively simple to use. You need to export the sketchup file as a STl, then import and convert the mesh to a shape with freecad. Once complete, you can export the shape as a .STEP file.

CalculiX results 'frd' to Paraview 'vtk' converter - FreeCAD Forum
a) Download the executable from the Google Drive
b) Place the .frd file in the same folder as the one with mmh_ccx2vtk.exe
c) Open the command line in this directory and type: mmh_ccx2vtk file_name.frd

Have you found any clever tools for converting DWG to Designer? I have tried some of those chinese DWG > PDF converters that Mac App Store offers but so far either they have no working trial or they are unable to keep scale. I suppose can use heavy CAD apps for converting but I would rather use something light and simple. Mac is my platform of choice.

FreeCad doesn't seem to support a format that Paint 3D understands. You'll need to use a converter program to do this. I've found a free program at NCH Software that seems to do the trick. First thing you need to do is download and install the program.

(one of the step files may be what is needed, but I know nothing about .stp to tell which one!) It appears that freecad will convert from .stp to .svg and given an svg I can covert it in to what Fritzing wants.

I want to be able to remove the text, and replace w a logo in svg format. I would also like to be able to change the shape of the marker sockets. I have used freecad to build a solid from the stl, but then I get stuck. The solid behaves as one object when I try and delete any selection. Internet says to just build my own model, easier to edit, etc. I thought it would be easier to edit an stl file, but could use alot of guidance in the right direction.
Original author provides a f360 file but I have freecad, should I give up on freecad?
