Meeting Space

Hello:

We have our 1st meeting scheduled for next Thursday at the Corner House. We will need to change locations because the Corner House has open mic night on Thursday's, and it is difficult to talk over that (as we discovered last Thursday during the Finance Committee meeting). I'd like to change the location to the Helen Plum Library in Lombard, but the only space I can reserve is a room near the adult quiet reading area. However, the library has a strict policy of not allowing kids in that room because it is located next to the quiet reading room. So, that makes it hard for Tania to attend.

So, does anyone have suggestions for an alternate meeting space? Or, Tania - would you be comfortable attending via Go-To Meeting or Skype? Just trying to figure out the best solution. Once the Historical Society completes the carriage house renovation, we can meet there (it's across the street from the library).

Hey Kathy,

We can probably meet at my church which is right across from the train station and kitty corner from the library. Then we don't have to worry about kids. While waiting to hear from you I will make sure there is a room open but I really don't see a problem.

Tomorrow evening I will not be able to get to the church until 7:35-7:40. Please come to the back of the church (by the Elmhurst Medical Center) and I will be there as quick as I can so we can begin.

Hello Group!

I won't be able to attend tonight's meeting as it's my mother's birthday. However, I have been trolling through a lot of the documents/studies already published by the Lombard Village Centre/Village of Lombard to see what's usable there as part of the Coop's business plan. I have a background in economic development (albeit in Tucson, AZ).

The following links are very helpful in making a grocery business case for downtown Lombard. This document rolls up a lot of the prior studies done. The last couple of pages are particularly helpful.

This is a 2010 market area/retail analysis that contains a lot of the figures a business plan will need. Some of them will need to be updated but I think the Lombard Town Centre people may have some of the data already. No need to spend a ton on a feasibility study if some of the data is already there.

Finally, I know Walter Smith, the current president of the Board of Directors for Lombard Town Centre, fairly well. I think he could be a most helpful resource if you haven't already met with him. He is truly dedicated to downtown Lombard's renaissance and he's a younger guy with good perspective and instincts.

Thanks for the information - these are great documents to look thru! Kathlee Freeman is asking the towncenter for a copy of a market study pertaining to a downtown grocery store - not sure if that information is contained w/in these documents (I haven't had time to read thru them entirely). These will be a great help in making the case for a grocery store. We aren't certain that the co-op will be located downtown, so we'll have to keep that in mind when looking thru these documents.

If you have experience creating business plans, perhaps you can help us get started on that. I am going to try and get a business plan from 2 existing co-ops. Not sure I'll be able to, but I'm willing to ask.

Would Walter be willing to meet w/ our group and answer questions/provide some insight into downtown Lombard? That would be great!

Another warm welcome to you, Amy! I just browsed one of the documents you linked and it's great info. I realize we're not confirmed for a downtown location but the market analysis has some great info to work with if we decide to go this route. After reading the geographical stats, it's encouraging to see that within a 5 minute drive of downtown, there are 25,000 people with an average household income of $80-$90K spending tons of money at grocery stores.

And exciting that you are a friend of Walter Smith! I agree with Kathy that it would be wonderful to meet with him as a group.

Off to look at these docs more extensively.....

Anyone interested in the $149 group rate for duct/dryer cleaning?

Andrew will be cleaning our air vents and dryer vents soon (he also offers chimney cleaning if needed). He recently did an excellent job at a nearby property—very thorough, punctual, and professional. If you have allergies, notice extra dust, or haven’t cleaned your vents in over a year, it’s probably time. He quoted $400, but with 3–4 houses it’s $159 for a single AC unit home.
