Right now I am dead in te water. My Linksys died and I cannot figure
out how to configure my Rogers SMC modem properly. It seems NIETHER
Rogers nor SMC will provide tch support for that modem.

The minimum I need to do is force a static IP for each of the four
ports.

mayday. mayday. As a result my name server is down.

I don't have any experience with those devices, but not all routers will
do static dhcp. You should be able to set a static ip in your computers
somewhere outside the router's dhcp range.

Are you saying that rogers does not support a modem they provided?
Or is the problem that they do not support router.

You should be able to connect a PC to the modem directly and get support
from Rogers for that configuration. When that configuration is
confirmed to be working, then insert your router into the mix.

If Rogers isn't supporting a modem they provided; perhaps they should
replace it?

I have the same modem/router. All I did was manually assign a static
IP to each of the machines on my network that needed it (along with
the gateway and DNS servers) and made sure the modem would only
distribute IPs in a different range.

For instance, the IP block for my devices that require a static IP are
in the 192.168.1.1-254 range, and any DHCP devices are in the
192.168.2.1-254 range.

Thanks guys. It is nice know there are otrhers who have configured
that modem.

First all of you can appreciate the stress of having name servers and
hosted sites doown for 36hrs just because Rogers does not support
their SMC modem. 10 minutes would have allowed me to configure it to
replace a faulty linksys modem. Aside from mail, with Franks' ideas
[thanks Frank!!] I solved most of the problems with my new server
configuration.

Absolutely. Rogers are not allowed to talk about any tech suport
except wireless. Funny thing is the Manufacturer of SMC modems are
not allowed to give any tech support except wireless. It was Rogers
who upgraded my modem & assured me everything was seamless.

I'm not all negative. Linksys support has been amazing [6hrs worth
usig a paid support package]. Finally a guy in India confirmed my
Linksys was flakey.

I've never spoken to so many Countries in a 48hr period in my life
using call centers !!!

Nick,

I'd like to e-mail you offline so we can publish what is required to
throw a server off the SMC modem. Right now I had to use bridge mode
to bypass it completely.

This was the question I was trying to get Rogers, then SMC, then
Rogers, then SMC to answer. Abviously anything is possible if one
knows all the menus.

Personally, I'd rather throw my server/mail/dns server on port one and
hang the linksys off another port. For now, it is bridged and the
linksys runs the rest. It seems so redundant having two routers
between the web and the internet.
