What would be the best core? I see the FBA cores and MAME, a combination perhaps? Would you know the file names to the bios files?

I think what I'm mainly missing here are the bios files, tbh. I can get the MAME core to launch but it is always getting stuck at initializing or loading at some random percent, but mainly 99%.

Also just using the standard stand alone Mame is an equally good choice and in some ways better. The way I think it is better is with Mame I can use an HLSL shader setup which works perfectly with both horizontal and vertical oriented games whereas in Retroarch if you are using some sort of CRT scanline type of shader they only work well for the horizontal games. Now if you aren't using a CRT scanline shader that won't matter.

So I messed around with things, tested, tried different cores, deleted over 300GB worth of files, redownloaded, and FINALLY think I figured out the issue.

I needed ROM's for FBA as opposed to MAME.

The mednafen core is amazing! Best Saturn emulation I've ever seen! It has some issues regarding game compatibility but that's not a big deal. Only a small number of my games wouldn't work because of the way they were ripped.

hello guys once again i need your help lordmonuks and everyone else if they happen to know!! Im super satisifed with how easy it was to make lists with cps1 ,2 and 3 compare it to neo geo where its just impossible.

But only prob is that when i boot game controler doest working or i dont know witch button to press for insert coin can somone tell me how to map my controler thorugh retroarch but only for the cps systems thx in advance!!!!

With the core and a game loaded open up the Retroarch Quick Menu (F1) then go to Settings > Input > Input User 1 Binds > User 1 Device Index and make sure your controller you want to use with it is selected. It usually is by default but sometimes it may not be and if you have multiple controllers you may have to tell Retroarch which one you want to use. Also while in the Retroarch UI see if your controller is working in it, if it is then you are good to go.

Once your controller is selected and working in the UI navigate back to the Quick Menu > Controls section and here you can setup your bindings how you like them. The default settings are generally setup pretty good depending on the controller you are using, in this menu you can see what the default controls are set to, for example Insert Coin and Start are generally by default set to the Select and Start buttons on your controller but again of course these can vary depending on the controller you are using.

If you make any changes make sure to save out the changes as a Core Remap if you want that setup to be the default setup for the FBA core or if it's just for that game save a Game Remap. I generally have different remaps for the 6 button fighters like Street Fighter.

Do the games that crash through Launchbox load in Retroarch outside of Launchbox ? It could either be a rom file that the emulator doesn't like or when you imported your games you selected the copy or move file when you should choose to use the files in their current location. Moving or copying will cause issues with arcade roms because of their requirement to have parent and bios rom files in the same folder as the game rom itself such as the qsound.zip and neogeo.zip files.

i never move the files or unzipe them either i gues its the rom files that launchox and retroarch doesnt like i had to delete some and keep going cause they dont play at all but the best ones are playing lets hope all sf games will launch they are my favorite the rom packs i found where from emuparadise do you think it might be the site , maybe i shoud download from isozone or somth else thx !!

Hi all, I have now upgraded from my old i3, and built myself a powerful i5 that allows BigBox to flow perfectly - I have slowly plodded away installing various platforms on LaunchBox. without any major problems. Until now! I can not seem to get CPS 3 running - I have set it up the same way as CPS 1 and CPS 2, but using the FDalpha core, or FDAlpha_2012. The ROMs wil not load, either through LaunchBox, or Retroarch. I am 90% it is something to do with the CHDs, however I have tried no CD versions, and they will not work either.

Thanks for the replies - that's how I have been putting my CHDs, just wondered in case they where meant to go anywhere else. Is there any specific BIOS required? Is there anything different that I need to tick etc during the import ROM process?

I have performed all the instructions found on the forums and videos on these, but nothing happens. The emulator is configured (retroarch with -L "cores \ fbalpha_libretro.dll" and core updated) and the rom (.zip) I have taken from Pleasuredome. even with the only retrarch something happens, I only get the scanned failed to load content. As I said, I followed all the instructions I found. What can it be? Thank you!

It is weird though that your FBA set won't work with the FBA core, try the FBA2012 core and see if that works for you. I know there was a recent new FBA rom set so I don't know if that is causing problems with the FBA core or not.

There's a standalone cps3 emulator? I believe that if you have a pretty decent system (fast cpu) then MAME would be the best choice. However, FBA and WinKawaks will also work, especially for the older, slower systems

I use the stand alone cps3 emulator it doesn't have any of the long load time that MAME has for those games. I have my own roms for this but testing by setting up sfiii2.zip from my MAME set as an additional app worked with launching the game from the CPS3 emulator.

i did used that core also the FBA 2012 one but with no avail they doesnt work through launchbox , but i used the rom set that comes with the standalone emulator can you pls tell me what rom set you used from what site ??

Jotego just updated everyone that at the companys current pace, the CPS3 core is going to take another 15 months to trace all the custom chips. then the added time for circuit extraction, and then getting it to a point to start putting it together to test/demo.
this news was sad to hear, but i understand this arcade board has a bunch of custom chips that will take lots of time to trace and recreate in FPGA.

reading his patreon update for the current progress, 15 months for chip tracing is a long time. Jotego has advised this will be too much of an undertaking with his current staff of employees and resources, and has a couple suggestions. try out some sort of machine learning (autoCkt ?) to help with tracing schematics - , or to use what MAME has for the schematics and update the CPS3 core as the custom chips get traced.

im in the boat of lets get something "as good as" current software emulation (with the added benefit of no input lag, original refresh rate, and no sound latency) and use what MAME has, and then make updates with the real chips as they get traced

Getting the CPS3 was a stretch anyway. I'm more in the boat of "leave it on MAME until the MiSTer can be something different" (i.e., as close to 1:1 as possible). To me, the MiSTer project is about preservation so, despite how anxious I am to play the very pretty Street Fighter III on the MiSTer, until it's properly preserved and 'digitally recreated,' my RPi will do just fine. Take your time, Jotego!

however, the CPS3 core did get picked by Jotego's patreon voters to devote development time to finish, and is a core that a bunch of people would gladly welcome. i understand most people reading this already know, but SFIII is still being played competitively. heck, even Justin Wong is playing on a MiSTer

and now its looking like development is a long ways away or getting shelved for the foreseeable future. 15 months was only the approximate time for tracing the chips, non-stop for 1 person. that doesnt include everything that would go into the production of the CPS3 core

ive always thought the CPS3 core would happen on the MiSTer, but it will be Jotego's swan song to the community. like, yes he will finish it, but it will be one of the last cores he makes for the MiSTer. which is totally understandable and he can take as long as he needs. everyone will be happy whenever it finally reaches our precious FPGA box

The opportunity cost of CPS3 is just massive. It's 15 months of tracing work for the sake of one game (Let's be honest, Third Strike is the only CPS3 game that people really want). And that's all work that isn't even really transferrable to any other core either.

PGM, or even the Psikyo SH2 is a far more sensible platform for him to focus his efforts on. Even the Konami boards with their various, bitty slapdash selection of chips is a better use of his time than CPS3... especially considering that Third Strike is already available on many other platforms.

Now information come that it will take maybe longer than expected because custom chips (maybe another challenge(s) coming in the next step of the dev can be expected)...I would say here nothing special and maybe PGM would and will follow the same path.
