These days, it seems that no-one but me *ever* responds to this
address, and I am very slow and miss things.

Help?

Why not just forward these mails to the list?

Hmm. Some of the things that come to that address are business
related, such as book orders; those *definitely* can't go to the
list.

I could *probably* find all such sources, though, although it would
mean work.

Well, I know the BPFK has it's own list, does the LLG? I think it would make most sense to either send them all to the LLG, or split them between the too aforementioned.

I keep up with stuff on loj...@lojban.org, usually responding to general
questions (and eventually filling orders). I probably should be better
about ccing you when I respond, so that you know it has been handled.
If you want me to take primary responsibility, I can, and you can add
Nora if you want, since she reads mail at different times than I do, and
tends to keep up better. Since we've discussed her possibly taking over
the Secretary job for a year, we'd need to do that anyway.

As I haven't seen you respond to anything there in many months, yes,
that would be nice. Or just reply to all, so everybody on it gets a
copy.

It might be nice of someone more tapped into the community (IRC,
facebook, etc) did so, but no-one seems to be volunteering, as
usual, so yes please.

Done.

As long as everybody thinks someone else might do it, no-one will
act, at least in this community. I was looking for someone to
actually take some responsibility for this function, on a personal
level.

"Many hands make light work" has been *staggeringly* unsuccessful
around here.

There used to be an LLG gmail address. You could connect them because they seem to be used for similar purposes

This phenomenon has been shown to be universal, actually. The more people there are who /could/ do something, no matter what it is, the less likely anyone /will/.

I don't remember any of the actual studies off the top of my head- it's been awhile since my psychology class- but I do remember that if you're getting beat up in an alley, it's much more likely that someone will come to your aid if three people see it happening than if 30 do.

This is why, in real life, you should never shout "Somebody call 911!" to a crowd of people, because everyone will assume someone else is doing it and so no one does. It's a much better idea to either do it yourself, or failing that, single some one out and shout "You there in the red shirt, call 911!" (Or some other uniquely descriptive identifier.)

In any case, this is not the reason for my not coming forward. My reason is simply that I'm not deeply enough involved to want to.

Could you tell us what this address is for, what kinds of emails it
receives? What are the duties of whoever takes it over?

I could manage reading all the mails (I don't expect them to be many),
but I'm not so sure how to handle business-related things. A clearer
"job-description" would be useful, unless it's too late now.

It's the general LLG/Lojban contact address.

> what kinds of emails it receives?

Mostly "How do I say X?" and "Where do I find audio/video/books?".
Generally one or two a week; my problem is that I'm often weeks
behind on email these days.

Answering those ^^

You'd pass those on to the board.

Sorry, that was dumb. :)

Yep; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect

*Indeed*. This is a very important thing to know; it can save your

Ah, that sounds manageable.

I'd be up for it.

Okay, if you tell me who the Board is, then I will gladly pass them on
to it. :)

Hmm. Now that I think on it, maybe we shouldn't out the one in the red shirt- unless the person also happens to be a jovial Scotsman that refers to engines as "she". Anyone who's seen Star Trek knows what happens to /them/.

Hi,

I offer my humble help for this, although I may not be the right one. Although I am proactive and am usually connected to the internet most of the day while I'm not traveling (which happens for some 1/4 of my time), my Lojban knowledge is moderate.

If you find my help useful, just give me specific instructions and I will do it.

What's really important here is a good grasp of what community
resources are avaliable. I gather you're pretty new?, so I'm going
to go with some other people for now, but I very much appreciate the
offer and I'll keep you in mind.
