Hi All,

Firstly, apologies for the cross-post.

I am having issues with My Komplete Kontrol S88 so am wondering if anyone else may have some advice in regard to what I might try in order to address this.

I seem to have all of the appropriate software and hardware installed as it should be but I am not able to activate the accessibility feature of the S88.

I have also checked the firmware and it shows as being the latest. Also, all other NI packages show as being the latest versions according to the current Native Access beta.

I can use the keyboard with Logic in midi mode via USB and it works fine except that the transport controls do not work.

I can bring up the Komplete Kontrol Software and can load different NI instruments which do play when I play the keyboard but again, I cannot seem to use any other features of the S88.

Since I am using this on a Macbook Air at the moment, I have also tried using the keyboard with and without a USB hub and this, as well, does not seem to make a difference.

Any thoughts / advice anyone might have? This is becoming quite frustrating.

Cheers!

Cara

Cara,

My wife found this.

  • KOMPLETE KONTROL S-Series keyboard accessibility features for visually-impaired users enabled by holding the top left button [SHIFT] and pressing the top right button [PRESET UP], or via Preferences > Hardware > Accessibility

Hi Kevin,

that’s the point; self-voicing mode will not activate. I have not read anywhere that VO needs to be off but in your experience, is this what needs to happen?

Thanks so much.

Cara,

What, if any, libraries, the keyboard when you buy it? Is absolutely everything sold separately? Keyboard by itself? All libraries additional?

Hi Kevin,

thanks so much to your wife! :) I did actually try this though and no dice. Please tell your wife thank you for me. -And both of you have a lovely evening! :)

Also, I do have all the updates at this point as well and nothing seems to work. So I will definitely keep you posted.

I truly appreciate all the effort you have put in to search this out for me and send these notes along. It means a lot. :)

Oh, btw, you had asked about the libraries and such. You do get ten instruments with the Komplete Kontrol S series keyboards. Otherwise, you would need to purchase material either from Native Instruments or from third parties which support them.

Also though, you can still always use the keyboards as standard midi controllers as well.

Hope this helps and again, have an awesome evening! :)

Cheers!

Hi Cara,

I posted about this issue on the PT Access list and not here because most Logic users wouldn't necessarily experience this problem if they hadn't installed Pro Tools at some point. I suspect that perhaps at some point, you might have installed Pro Tools and there's one driver that can cause problems. It's the Avid Core audio driver. The driver is not necessary for using Pro Tools itself but rather for using Avid hardware with other DAWs. Removing the driver fixes the problem. I experienced this exact issue with my setup and I did a complete reinstall and the issue was the driver all along.

Go to Library, Audio, Plug-ins, HAL and look for the Avid Core Audio Driver and take it out of the folder and restart the computer. If you have a Digidesign folder within the HAL folder, check to see if there's a similar driver in there and remove it.

Let me know if that solves the problem.

Hello, thanks for that info, but I was wondering what I still be able to use that. 003 with ProTools, without the drivers? I mean I still use my 003, but I was just curious if we move those drivers would I still be able to use it.

Hi Darwin,

As mentioned in my message, it doesn't affect Pro Tools only other DAWs when using Avid hardware. So, for example, if you wanted to use Avid hardware with, say, Digital Performer or Cubase, unless there are third-party dedicated drivers, there would be a conflict with the Komplete Kontrol S series keyboards being recognized. You should be fine to remove that driver and just put it somewhere else in case you need to have it be active again.

HTH,
Slau

I didn't knowDigi hardware was involved.

Hi Kevin,

It's not involved, per se, but if one has had Pro Tools installed, whether it's more recent Avid or earlier Digidesign variety, a driver is included for using whichever DAW with the Digidesign/Avid interfaces. If one has never installed Pro Tools on their system, it's not an issue. Where it would certainly be an issue is where a person was using, say, Logic with an Avid interface along with the Komplete Kontrol S series controller. In fact, a similar problem has shown up with Mackie Control Universal drivers and the S-series hardware. Here's a link to the Native Instruments help article:
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/knowledge-base/show/4865/my-ni-hardware-is-not-recognized-by-my-ni-software-os-x-10.10.5-and-os-x-10.11/

Incidentally, I saw that you suggested a possible conflict between VoiceOver and using the self-voicing feature of Komplete Kontrol. It's not an issue and the two work side by side with no problems. Just an FYI.

Cheers,
Slau

Slau,
As soon as I wrote that post, I realized that I was wrong about VoiceOver and self voicing mode.  Also, I didn't think about whether Cara owned any Digi or Avid stuff.  Hope that's the answer.

Hey Slau,

Thanks bunches for the suggestion, but alas no workie. :)

I have not installed PT on this particular system as I am running a number of different systems at the moment and this one is for Logic. I actually have been thinking of installing PT to this drive as well but will refrain from that until I get a better handle on the Komplete Kontrol situation.

I did make a point to look in the path you mentioned anyway, and while I do have a digi folder, it is empty.

So at this point I am not sure what is up.

I will plan on posting in the NI forums about it unless you or someone else may have another idea at this point.

thanks a lot and hope you are having a great evening!

Cheers!

Hi Cara,

I hope you don’t mind, but I raised your problem with the Native Instruments product manager for Komplete Control. Here’s his response:

"I think that Caraís Komplete Kontrol S88 is not connecting to Komplete Kontrol plug-in for some reason. Assuming that Cara is using Logic Pro X, it seems that it is also not connected there via OSC. One thing to check is that in Logicís Control Surfaces Setup dialog "Automatic Installationî is ticked, but I doubt that this is the issue.

I would suggest that Cara gets in touch with Technical Support and explains the situation - I have Ccíd my colleague Philipp Pech from Technical Support so that he is aware. With Caraís permission someone in Philippís team can provide software that allows them to remote control the computer and find the issue."

I hope that this helps and hope I haven’t been too presumptive. I’ve got the system working here and it’s generally lovely, so I wanted to try and spread the joy:)

Best wishes.

Hi Tim,

so sorry for the late response.

I confess, I have been addicted to the Roger group for this list and so did not see your note until recently.

it really means a lot to me that you reached out on my behalf so I really would like to thank you publicly for this. If more of us offered help like this for each other then I really feel that this could make our lives as individuals so much nicer. :)

Thanks for really walking the walk when it comes to fostering community.

Not to gush too much, :) but there are quite a few people here who are really putting in the time and effort to make this happen as well so thank you all!

Okay, so on to the topic at hand. Tim, I was able to get my KK S88 up and running accessibly this past weekend and I must say it is just AWESOME!!! :)

I mentioned this on the Roger group but since I didn’t see your note here, I left it at that since I kind of thought this thread was on its way out. You sure proved me wrong! :)

Anyway, I will reach out to the kind people at Native and let them know as well as thank them personally for their willingness to help out.

Again, this sort of awesome behavior from them makes me a very happy girl! :) This shows a tremendous commitment not only to accessibility but to really following through with helping their customers and I sooo appreciate this.

Anyway, thanks again and please do have an awesome day / evening, wherever you may be! :)

Cheers!
