Hi everybody.

I'm back with yet another exciting question.

So I paste an mp3 file into Logic, then go into the inspector and set flex to speed fx. Now how do I actually change the speed of the track? I'm trying to slow down some traditional African kalimba playing to learn some tunes. I swear I did this once but I'm apparently not smart enough to figure it out a second time. I was considering buying Amazing SLowdowner as a simpler process, but it worked once and then just said "not responding" every time I tried to run it again, so I deleted it. Then I remembered I was pretty sure you could do this in Logic, so here i am.

Hi mate,

After enabling the flex time, decrease or increase the master BPM tempo.

Best,
Rui

You can just use Varispeed for this. If you are gonna use flextime, I’d probably try polyphonic not s speed as that is the option that will change the pitch as well when changing the tempo. Try polyphonic and adjust the tempo or use Varispeed.

Thanks all!

OK, so getting a track into Logic and playing. Sometimes I can just load a project, usually a software instrument, copy a file in Finder, then paste into Logic. It makes a new audio track with the mp3 file. Sometimes that happens and it plays just fine, sometimes it won't paste and make a new track, once it took pasting two or three times before it made a new track, but then it wouldn't play.

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong here? Do I need to make sure I'm in a particular area, e.g. interacting with the track headers? Something else? Do I need to import rather than paste, because it's an mp3 file?

Nothing you are doing wrong. If you already copied and pasted a region with in Logic, copy and paste from finder won’t work anymore until you restart Logic or better yet clear the clipboard. Logic Magician has a key command for this and you can do it with out Logic magician but I forget what the sequence of key commands are to do that since I just been using the Logic Magician command whic is really just condensing them down into one key command.

Yeah that’s it, thanks. Shift D, then command c. Then switch to finder and copy the file you want then switch back to logic and paste.
