Hi guys.
I am about to order the S88 MK III from Native instruments and I am having problems with my ports here. I am spending ports here and there to charge or use devices and I need better port management on my system any way.
Regardless, I need a good hub with lots of ports but I need it to be thunderbolt 4 so that I can have an external hard disk for sound libraries and logic projects.
So I need a fast one.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Nektarios.

For what it's worth, I don't think you actually "need" thunderbolt 4. Thunderbolt 3 is far, far more than fast enough for external hard drive use. For one thing, a spinning hard drive is abysmally slower than Thunderbolt 3. For another, even a modern and very expensive SSD external drive is only a fraction as fast as a thunderbolt 3.

Last, and here's the best part, smiling, thunderbolt 4 isn't actually faster than thunderbolt 3! At least not in any meaningful sense. Thunderbolt 5 is another matter.

Tell you what, google search thunderbolt 3 compared to thunderbolt 4. After that, google hard drives compared to solid state drive, and write us back to tell us what you think?

Good luck!

Bruce

TB 4 is great for future proofing but I been running the TB3 dock I have had for years now fine with my TB4 Mac. I really like the CalDigit TB series docks. I have the CalDigit TB 3+ I believe and di believe they have a TB4 and TB 5 versions now along with plus versions of both. There is also the CalDigit elements hug which will probably server your purpose for less money giving you 4 TB ports and 4 usb A portal fully powered if memory serves correct.

And they have the same speed! Smile. 40gbps.\
However, the thunderbolt 5 is much faster, and you would be ready for the next generation.
