Hello, what’s the best way to apply an effect only to a specific region on a track instead of the entire track, so that the effect is bypassed for the other regions? I’ve heard about selection-based processing, but there are some unlabeled buttons—how exactly does it work? Or should I just use automation to set the bypass instead? Also, how can I copy a specific plugin with its parameter values to paste onto a different track in another project? Sometimes I don’t want the whole channel strip settings, just a specific plugin configuration. thank you!

About the plugin settings, I know about command+option+c/v but that copies all the plugins in the track, which I don’ want.

Hey:

steps to add an effect to the selected region, or Selection Based Processing as Logic calls it..

1 Use Voiceover to interact with the Tracks area

2 Navigate to the Tracks area and interact with it

3 Locate the Tracks Header and interact with it

4 Navigate to the track which contains the region on which you would like to add effects

5 Use Left or Right Arrows to navigate to the region in that track that you would like to work on

6 Once you have the region you would like to add the effect to selected, Press Shift+Option+P to bring up the Selection-Based Processing window

7 You should now be placed in the correct window where you can add effects to your selected region

8 Navigate using VO and right arrow until you come to a list (this should be the first of two lists - if you go too far and find the second list, simply go back to the first one)

9 Interact with this list and then perform a VO space to open a menu of effects you can add

10 Choose the effect you would like to add to your region and press enter to select it

11 The window should now open where you can choose presets for the effect or change the settings for the effect

12 Once you have the effect set the way you would like, close the window by locating the Close icon

13 Perform the VO F2 twice again and locate the Selection-Based Processing window once again and press enter on it

14 Once you are in the Selection-Based Processing window again, use Voiceover to Locate the Preview button (this button will be just to the right of the word Preview if you are navigating to the right with VO)

15 Activate the Preview button to hear what your effect sounds like

16 Repeat steps 8 through 15 until you have the sound you would like

20 When you have the sound you would like, locate the Apply button and then activate this button to apply the effect to your selected region

I wouldn’t use selection based processing for most things. Instead I would duplicate the track with command D, copy or cut the region you want the effect on over to it then put the additional effect you want on the track. There are very rare cases I’d use selection based processing in for signal flow reasons.
If you are using logic magician and it’s a blank track it can be faster to copy the channel strip with cmd opt C from a track and then paste just the plug ins on the new track. And then with Logic Magician quickly remove the ones you don’t want on the new track.
However if you just want to copy a plug in setting open the plug in with the setting you want to copy and in the pop up button or drop down menu where you would select a preset choose copy. Then close that plug in window and open the plug in window you want to paste the settings into and from the same pop up button choose paste.

Generally speaking this can be sped up a bit just using up and down arrow to select the track then left and right to select the region without having to first do all the interacting to get into the track headers.
