Adding an empty region

What’s an easy way to create an empty region for let’s say 30 bars? I’m trying to use automation in my track stack and apparently I need a place holder region to be able to do that.

something i did to accomplish this task, I created a software instrument track, recorded only 1 bar, deleted the data via the event list, then i set the left/right locaters for my empty region, then command/backslash or option/backslash i am not sure which one i did, to extend the region to fill the locater. But would be happy to hear about other solutions!

What exactly are you wanting to automate? I generally just do track automation instead of region automation so  no  blank region is needed  in that case. 

To create a blank MIDI region it’s  Control Option Command Shift M. Once you have the region created it’s normally one bar, you can move it to where you want the region to start with if its not already there by moving the playhead to where you want the region to start and then press semi colon to. Move the region there. Move the playhead to where you want the region to end and press command right bracket to set the end of the region to the playhead position.
