Logic step recording problem

I was eager to try the step input recording on Logic with the step recording keyboard using Command+Option+K. I can select the note length with the number row, such as 1 for a whole note, 2 for a half note, 3 for a quarter note, etc. And it successfully enters the notes. However, as I enter notes on the keyboard, VoiceOver doesn’t inform me of the playhead position, regardless of what I do. I’m also supposed to be able to navigate between the length values using the right/left arrows, but there’s no VoiceOver feedback. My playhead position notifications are enabled in the Logic accessibility settings. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just another bug in the software I paid for?
