Hi, if I press command shift up or down to move me between my takes, the take changes, but VoiceOver announces, “no take folder selected.” If I turn Logic Magician off, it also moves through the takes but doesn’t say no take folder selected. Any ideas what might be causing that message?
Thanks.

A couple of things, if you have multiple tracks with the same name, change the name of one of them so it’s not the same name anymore . Tracks with the same name will trip up Logic Magician when it’s looking for tracks/region and is one of the culprits when it says no regions selected and other such messages. Alternatively things like Automation mode being visible can do the same thing so press A to verify that automation mode is hidden. If it says visible then press A again to hide it. Logic Magician should check for automation mode so its most likely not that.
Also Starting in Logic 12 I believe it is, the take folder has to be collapsed. Option F should callaspe or expand the take folder. And with Logic Magician it should say whether it’s open or closed.

Thanks for the tips. In this case it was seemingly because a track stack was open. Not the relevant track stack I was working with, but when I closed the track stack the takes started speaking their name when I move between them.

Hmm, I wonder if there was a similarly named track in that track stack that when you closed the track stack it hid? That’s happened to me before. Glad you got it sorted either way.

Maybe. The track stack was called accordion, and in that track stack was accordion left and accordion right. The track I was working on though was outside that track stack, on a track by itself called piano. It seems as if Logic / Logic Magician is very particular about the view it has being just right. I keep having to toggle it back to full screen to do things like insert automation points with command control 5 and 6 or to get regions to select. I never instruct Logic to take me out of full screen mode, but presumably it does that automatically when I change views. Thanks for the help.

Interesting, I haven’t experienced having to change views for specific things. When you are able to, Get on discord and lets jump in a chat and have you share your screen and see if we can’t trouble shoot some of this.

I remember one of the videos saying it's a good idea to repeatedly check to be sure you are on the main screen with no other screens or windows whatever open. If you are sure you are on the main window, you might be able to use option-h to hide all other windows.

Hope this helps.

P.S. I freely admit I often don't know what I'm talking about, but admitting it never got in my way of learning, and, personally, I believe that's why I'm here, to learn.

On track names, similarly named tracks aren't problem, only if two or more tracks are named exactly the same, it can trick the LM, that is, it will always pick the first one.

You've got two very strange behaviours there, one track stack influencing another stack if I got you right, which shouldn't be the case at all, and having to change view to do something.
As Steve suggested, let's jump on discord sometimes so we can see what's going on. We tested LM with and without full screen and it worked equally well, so technically, you shouldn't have switched the view to make something work.

Thanks very much to you both. I’ll definitely try to join you on Discord soon, but as my last email outlines, I had a fruitless 90 minutes trying to create an account. But thanks for the extra details on this. With you soon.

HI Steve and Laid, I am pleased to report that I easily managed to join the Discord server, thanks to Steve’s tips on his website. So yes it would be great to join you in there at some point and see if we can get to the bottom of the slightly idiosyncratic behaviour of my Logic, which we’ve been discussing. Generally it all works great, but I suspect the oddities are down to maybe some screen-based weirdness like zooming or some-such. I’m not gigging Monday or Wednesday this week, if that’s any good? I’m in the UK, but can be flexible with my operational hours. Thanks chaps.
