Hi list.
I am experimenting with garageband and I will soon get in to Logic studio 9. I wish to purchase a control surface / audio interface to use with these applications. I think that this will make things easier and it may solve various accessibility problems.
Any suggestions for the most integrated solution are welcome.

Nektarios.

Good morning,

I am looking at M-audio Project mix-IO,
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProjectMixIO/
I don't think it will work well with GarageBand, I am using a small Korg for GB, but, it will work fine with Logic.

Hello there!
Funny thing is, that after I wrote the message, I was looking at the project mix IO myself. It looks good.
From what I am reading, it works fine with logic.
The audio part will also work with garageband but not the control surface.
We have to find out how accessible is the software that comes with the unit, if any.

Regards.
Nektarios.

Do you have money to spend, or are you on a shoestring budget?

The ProjectMix was discontinued a few months ago.

If you have $1,200 or so to spend, I suggest the Mackie Control Universal.

For tiny budgets, the Behringer BCF2000, for $200 or so, might be a good option. It doesn't contain a shuttle/jog wheel, but it has motorized faders and quite a few dedicated buttons.

Really, though, the Mackie is better for you in the long run. There are lots more dedicated buttons, where as the Behringer includes only the essential functions.

If you don't mind buying used, then, besides the ProjectMix, I'd suggest the Tascam FW1884. It has a huge number of dedicated buttons, and works with all of the major DAWs. It will probably run you $1,000+.

Hello Bryan.
I think that about $1500 or around that, I will give it a serious thought.
Something like the M-audio project mix IO.
I know that you own that board. What do you think?
If I go with this, then I will be able to think about protools mpowered as well.

Regards.
Nektarios.

The problem with the MCU, is that you don't have audio interface. Isn't that correct?

Practically no control surfaces work with GarageBand. Apple makes it that way on purpose.

We're just starting to use them with Logic, so I can't say all that is possible yet. You can go back and read my post from the morning to find out what we've been discovering.

Yes, but has more controls. Plus, the ProjectMix is a discontinued product.
