Our new place is in the mountains with a view of the city lights of Denver. The house is a fixer-upper which keeps me very busy, but also includes a 1000 square foot workshop! The workshop/garage is already wired for 220v and has a water supply so my equipment and hydration needs have already been met.

This is a picture of the shop. It is cement and cinder block construction with a storage/apartment space above. In the coming weeks, weather permitting, I hope to insulate and finish the exterior before moving to the inside.

This spring I have been at work renovating my backyard shed workshop. Its exterior was in sore shape and I have been working to re-side the entire building as well as repair rotten framing. As part of this work, I needed build a window sash and a pair of batten doors. While I have leaned on a number of references for door and sash joinery, my primary one has been Doormaking and Window-Making, a reprint of a British publication done by Lost Art Press. A couple of articles in the recent Lost Art Press release, The Woodworker: The Charles H. Hayward Years, have also aided, especially the illustrations.

Hi, stumbled upon your blog while searching for pictures on the naked woodworker, since I am looking at building his bench. Enjoyed your projects, and see some I have thought about doing. The ledged doors look great. Best-

Transformation of a traditional alpine workshop. The project consists of the renovation and partial transformation of a workshop in an alpine region. The owner, a sculptor and artist, wanted to rethink the inner organization and the light situation of the traditional building.

The large hall of the existing structure is separated by two parallel walls, which form three areas: a shared storage space in the center and two workspaces on each side. Every room has access to a second level by way of a narrow staircase. The shelves, which partly separate the rooms, are made of the old boards of the former ground floor.

Aimed at promoting a systemic approach to sustainability in construction, the workshop will explore innovative solutions for the renovation of the residential sector. Open to a wide range of participants, from homeowners to condominium administrators, from construction professionals to social housing entities, the workshop will provide an overview of some of the most discussed housing redevelopment approaches at the national and European levels. Topics will include the decarbonization of residential buildings through the installation of prefabricated solutions and the socalled One Stop Shop approach, an organizational model capable of coordinating and facilitating renovation interventions, even on a large scale, by bridging the gap between supply and demand. At the end of the event, there will be a networking cocktail including an exhibition of technologies and services for circular and sustainable renovation, with information desks managed by local companies. Participants and interested parties can thus engage with experts and get information on the most recent developments in the market.

In detail, the workshop program will open with institutional greetings from the Municipality of Trento, featuring Monica Baggia, Councillor for Urban Planning and Economic Development, and Ezio Facchin, External Councillor for Mobility and Urban Regeneration. The event will be moderated by Abderrahim Khairi, Membership and Events Coordinator of Housing Europe.
