Hi neighbors,

I was trapped in Elevator #1 this afternoon.  I was coming home from shopping for food and parked in the basement level. Elevator #1 came to the basement and I got in with my cart of food. There was a loud noise and it stopped and the lights started blinking. It wouldn't move and I couldn't get out. The call button worked and I was told that someone from the elevator repair company was coming to get me out.

But I had to wait almost 45 minutes for him to get there. The elevator stopped about 3 feet up from the basement floor and I had a difficult time getting out because my knees have serious osteoarthritis and I had already been standing on them for more than 45 minutes. The guy who came was very nice and helped me get out and stand on the basement floor.

He did not know why the elevator was back in service after people got stuck in it yesterday. and asked why was it back in service when it clearly was not fixed after yesterday's problems when someone got stuck?  I just put in a service request with Hales again.

I have put in several requests for service for that elevator in the last few weeks and this is very frustrating for me and I'm sure for others in the building. I bought my condo because it has two elevators but elevator #1 has not been working reliably for a long time. I hope we can get it fixed, really fixed soon. But be careful until it is.

Hi Sally/All,

I am really sorry to hear that you were stuck in the elevator and I do not know why that was placed back in service. I have been in contact with the management company as well to try to get answers. It sounds like Joshua, our new property manager at Hales, has been trying to get answers from Smart Elevators  but they have not been very responsive. He has been stressing the urgency and has requested answers as soon as possible. I provided Joshua the contact information for our elevator consultant as well in case he needs to get involved. It is very frustrating that these elevators seem to be having even more problems than the old elevators.

Also, we opted to install a backup battery to try to prevent issues so that the elevator would return to the nearest floor and let anyone inside of the elevators out, but we had to follow up multiple times to see if this was actually installed and were finally told that "With the machine room being so limited in space and the controllers in there, there is just no room for the back-up battery to be put in and be in compliance with City code".

Hopefully we have more answers soon and can have these elevators fixed.

Best,
Meredith
