The Environmental Cowboy is comin' to town!!
Khory Hancock aka The Environmental Cowboy is going to present at ANZBC17!! Khory is a young carbon farmer and climate change activist. We are really chuffed to have him speak on behalf of the next generation of carbon farmers who not only take the bottom line into account but the effects our farming practices are having on human induced global warming. Biochar is an immediate hit of recalcitrant carbon that won't decompose in our lifetime's, accumulates carbon in its micro aggregates over time and reduces greenhouse gases like methane and nitrous oxide coming off our farms. We're really excited to get this message out there. Check out his you tube channel below and see his pic and bio at our presenters page to learn more about Khory. https://anzbc.org.au/presenters/ Chars Khory!!

Biochar & Sewerage Sludge?!
If humans are the greatest contributors to a warming planet then what if we could close the loop on our own waste?! You know, deal with our own .... first!! Waste Treatment Plants across the country are sucking up fossil fueled power by the Billions to deal with pathogens and dispose of it in an acceptable manner.
Well in Europe and the States particularly, pyrolysis systems are now being installed to firstly, dry the sludge, then pyrolyse it to produce electricity for the plant and or the grid, thermal energy for drying and acceptable bio-products coming out the other end (pardon the pun) !!
Raw biochar made from other materials (particularly woody waste) is also being used in biodigesters as another application and due to it's immaculate surface area will ab & adsorb toxins, filtrate and improve the efficacy of the gas produced (in simple terms).
Suchanya Wongrod, a PhD student at the University of Paris will give us some insights into the use of sewerage sludge biochar in her presentation on the work she has done on the topic "Biochar production from sewage sludge and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste digestates as sorbents for lead removal from aqueous solutions"
Calling all Waste Managers from Councils and privately from ANZ, let's look at better ways to reduce our waste, close the loop, cut out our consumption of old energy and draw down stable carbon to build our soils.
