Jane Street Garden progress, upcoming projects and a big thank you!
Have Your Say In the Davies Park Improvement Project
Dear Jane Street Garden Supporters
Firstly, a huge thank you to all you garden supporters for your commitment and hard-work at the gardens. It has been amazing to see everything come together over the years.
As you may be aware the Brisbane City Council have released their proposed plan for the Davies Park Improvement Plan that includes the relocation of the Jane Street Community Garden. The current site has restrictions due to ground conditions and the existing site can’t be re-mediated due to roots of neighbouring fig trees. In addition to the proposed opportunity to find a more permanent location in the Davies Park, we are exploring the possibility of converting this site into a community run non-edible native garden.
The Brisbane City Councils proposed site would be remediated to allow for unrestricted growing of edible crops. A site has been proposed and is open for community feedback and I encourage you to check out this new proposed site located at the southeast edge of the soccer field. A number of concerns has been raised by garden members regarding the shape, location and size of this proposed site. What do you think? Please visit the link below to check out this site and give your feedback online. You can also help the gardens by expressing your support for maintaining the existing site as a community run native garden.
We understand how much people value the community garden and look forward to people working with us and Brisbane City Council to ensure community gardening continues in Davies Park.
There are many different ways to get involved at the garden depending on your time availability and interests. Read more below to find a way that best suits you!
