Spend this weekend walking around your city and seeing the urban world with new eyes. |
From neighborhood landmarks to skyline icons, buildings carry memories, express shared values, and shape how we move through daily life. The Architectural Imagination invites you to slow down, look closely, and learn to “read” architecture the way you’d read a great novel or work of art. |
See Architecture as Idea, History, and Craft
Featuring faculty from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, this introductory course uses some of history’s most important buildings to unpack how architecture works as cultural expression and as technical achievement.
You’ll learn to:
-
Read Architectural Drawings: Understand plans, sections, perspectives, and other forms of architectural representation so you can see how designers think in space.
-
Connect Buildings to Their Context: Explore the social and historical forces behind major works of architecture and how architecture reflects a culture’s deepest values and aspirations.
-
Experiment with Design Yourself: Try basic hands-on exercises in drawing and modeling that introduce how architects move from concept to form.
-
Imagine Your Own Path in Architecture: See how these skills can support academic study, a future professional career in architecture, or simply a more thoughtful way of engaging with the spaces around you.
