This Harvard-designed online course—led by professor and prize-winning author Dr. Martin Puchner and featuring current Harvard students—gives high school writers a clear, confidence-building path to college-ready essays.
As a member of our email list, we’d like to extend an invite for you or your student(s) to apply for Fundamentals of Writing’s beta cohort. In order to get the best feedback, we’re looking for a diverse group of beta participants. Through a brief survey, we can identify the best audience for this cohort, let you know if you’ve been accepted to participate, and if so, how you can enroll. |
Enrollment for the beta cohort is through application only; you must fill out the survey to be eligible to enroll. Fundamentals of Writing is only available to learners 16 years or older if living in the United States, 18 years or older if living outside of the United States. If you are selected to enroll, the beta cohort will run from June 10-July 15, 2026.
If you are selected to enroll, enrollment must be completed by June 4th at 11:59 PM ET to join the upcoming cohort.

About Fundamentals of Writing
Fundamentals of Writing
gives high school writers a clear, confidence-building path to college-ready essays. Learners will choose topics they care about, follow a proven step-by-step process, receive practical checklists and examples, and learn to consider the use cases for AI in their writing practice. Along the way, they will be introduced to the fundamentals of research and argumentation, such as gathering evidence, framing arguable claims, avoiding logical fallacies and revising for precision and impact. By the end, learners will hold a completed essay and a repeatable method they can rely on throughout their career. |
Why join the beta cohort?
-
Early Access: Access to the beta cohort is only by invitation. You’ll experience the course before it’s available to the public.
-
Direct Feedback: Help shape the future of the course. As a return for providing your feedback on Fundamentals of Writing and its content, the certificate price for the beta wave is $325, compared to $650 for all future cohorts.
-
Exclusive Community: Other beta participants will be those who have indicated interest in the course. You’ll work through the course with them, giving and receiving feedback on discussion answers.

How does a beta cohort differ from a public cohort?
The course may require some polishing, including minor technical bugs, and we’re looking for feedback from learners like you or your student to help improve it. By joining the Fundamentals of Writing beta cohort, you will be asked to complete a survey and potentially participate in a Zoom interview on the course experience, and in exchange, we’re reducing the price by 50%. Other discounts will not apply. You will receive a full certificate upon completion of the course and all post-course reflections. |
