Dear Log Moocs,

Curriculum is more than a list of topics to be covered. It represents the knowledge, skills, and values we believe are important for learners to develop.

The Foundations of Teaching for Learning: Curriculum course examines how curricula are designed, how learning is sequenced, and how teachers can make connections between what is taught and why it matters. A clear sense of purpose helps ensure that learning builds coherently over time.

One important idea is alignment: when learning objectives, activities, and assessment are well connected, students are more likely to understand what they are working towards and why.

Try this reflection:

Choose one unit you teach and ask:

  • What are the key ideas or skills students should carry forward?

  • How does this unit prepare them for future learning?

Continue your learning:

Revisit the Curriculum course and continue with the next module to strengthen your understanding of curriculum design.

Already completed it? Explore another course in the Foundations of Teaching for Learning series to continue your professional learning journey.

Warm regards, The Commonwealth Education Trust
