Dear Log Moocs,
Thank you for taking a CalArts course on Coursera and joining our global community of creative lifelong learners.
If you are interested in taking a deeper dive into our courses with an instructor-led experience, we offer several classes at calarts.edu/extended-studies.
Currently enrolling now:
Maura Condrick’s Animation Skills Workshop: Drawing & Design, enroll by March 17.
Work on developing observational drawing and design skills (e.g., contour and gesture drawing, prop and character design) under the guidance of an animation professional and seasoned educator. Through participation in lectures, workshops, independent projects, and regular discussion, students advance foundational skills while receiving creative mentorship and enriching their portfolio.
Eve LaFountain’s The Art of Filmmaking: Composition and the Moving Image, enroll by March 18.
Explore how the moving image is constructed in the production and post-production process. Topics include composition, framing, camera movement, lens and optics, depth of field, lighting, image editing and visual effects.
Leona Cheung’s Fundamentals of Graphic Design, enroll by March 19.
Learn the fundamental principles of image-making, typography, composition, working with color and shape. This course consists of hands-on exercises and practical projects that will provide you with a core set of skills that you can apply to your own projects, or to more deeply investigate a specialized area of graphic design.
