Updates from the WEG Team

February 2026

The year is off to an excellent start! As with prior years, we kicked off 2026 with the Webber Energy Group Annual Research Symposium during which our students and senior researchers presented our work on grid modeling, clean molecules, the built environment, and the food-energy-water-waste nexus to an audience of 70+ sponsors, collaborators and partners. These symposia are a great way for the team to give an early preview of our work and get feedback from experienced energy professionals as we fine-tune our work. Some new elements we included were a panel discussion by the senior researchers and an interactive game/quiz.

We use the feedback, questions and insights to sharpen our research questions and methodologies in a way that elevates their impact, so we want to offer our thanks to our symposium attendees for their time and expertise.

Moving forward, the group continues to evolve. Drew Kassel and Sarah Reynolds successfully defended their dissertations and are now Dr. Kassel and Dr. Reynolds. Two new undergraduate researchers joined the team (see below), a graduate student is visiting us for the next few months as part of an international exchange, and we continue to publish and engage with the media to inform the public, policy makers, and private sector with the latest findings of our research. We hope these contributions are meaningful and it feels they are making a difference bit-by-bit.

Thank you for your role in this as a supporter, collaborator or consumer of our work. We couldn't do it without you, and we will be in touch again soon.

Sincerely,
