Dear Learners,
We are excited to share that a three-course Fashion As Design specialization is now available on Coursera.
This specialization refreshes and expands the content of MoMA’s popular course, Fashion as Design. In response to learner feedback, the courses offer new perspectives from artists, historians, and other experts in clothing manufacturing and sustainability, as well as designers reimagining garments for the future. You can also engage with creative prompts using the clothes in your closet.
In Fashion as Design: Silhouettes and Icons, examples of silhouettes and iconic garments from the 20th century to today serve as a springboard to consider how we use clothing and accessories to project, aspire, and shift our sense of self.
In Fashion as Design: Craft and Sustainability, you can gain insights into the processes that make the clothes in your closet, consider concerns for the fashion industry’s labor and sustainability practices, and explore methods for extending the lifecycle of your clothes.
In Fashion as Design: Expression and Community, you’ll explore how the clothes in your closet connect you to others and make you stand out through items that express identity, create and demonstrate community ties, and borrow and remake existing styles.
Enroll in the specialization today and earn a certificate after completing all the courses!
Please note: With the launch of this new specialization, we will be removing the original Fashion as Design course from Coursera and the Modern and Contemporary Art and Design specialization on March 15.
Thank you for your continued commitment to MoMA’s courses. Please feel free to share the new specialization with anyone who may be interested in learning more about fashion, design, and art!
