The comments submitted by the Flamings regarding the lodge are excellent. I entirely agree that any changes to the existing lodge should be minor and that we need to figure out the best way to effectively use what we have. With all due respect to the good folks who have spent considerable time and energy on the LATF project I have frankly been astounded at some of the ideas being floated: ice rink, basketball court, covered tennis, exercise center etc.
I am totally opposed to the idea of tearing down the lodge or an expensive renovation project. Many of us are still paying for the last capital improvement assessment (which I thoroughly supported). This year brought a dues increase of $100 per month. Rental income for most owners who rent is down considerably. BBR ownership has become a rather expensive proposition. I am very concerned at the prospect of another expensive project which would undoubtedly require another assessment.
As Mr. and Mrs. Flaming noted: NO ADDED EXPENSES for a LONG while! I believe many, if not most, owners would agree that we are not interested in any options regarding the lodge which would increase our costs. I am quite skeptical that any of the suggested renovations/additions would ever generate enough revenue to justify their cost and they certainly would not do so in the short term.
I am fine with the idea of getting creative in considering options for the best use of the existing lodge facility and appreciate the efforts of those who are working in that direction. But the cost factor is paramount and will continue to be for at least the next several years.
