to Lodge Area Task Force Discussion Board
Thank you for the lodge area discussion held in Tualatin. For those
of you unable to attend, I wanted to share my comments about the check
in process and drawing more people to the main lodge. The lodge has
always been the hub of activity and since the Welcome Center is now
the designated check-in location, lodge activity has dropped
significantly. Proponents of the Welcome Center who said they had
ideas to draw people to the lodge after the Welcome Center was built,
may have underestimated the challenge.

Some thoughts:
1) Consider that check-in at the Welcome Center was a mistake and move
check-in back to the main lodge. This would draw people back to the
lodge where they can experience the views, explore the dining
facilities, even make a reservation. (how many times have you observed
one spouse checking in for example, and the rest of the family
explores the lodge while waiting-a great no cost advertisement of our
facility!)

2) For the lodge to be an activity hub, driving business to the
dining facility, a go to concierge is needed to help promote all Ranch
activities. Another idea would be to install a " Information Hotline"
phone in the lodge lobby area connected to a Welcome Center staffer to
answer questions. At a minimum an activities calendar should be
easily visible at the Lodge.

3) The current lodge has wonderful ambiance. It seems that add-ons to
the kitchen, dining, etc. could be accomplished but I understand there
are multiple infrastructure issues and remodeling may be more
expensive. If rebuild is choosen, certianly take advantage of the
views and maintain the cozy ambiance that currently exists.

4) A pavilion makes sense-- this should be built so it doesn't impede
views, or the drive up to the lodge, tucking it into the landscape.
Build it on the east lodge side, possibly encompassing the current
outdoor dining nook/courtyard area that has too many steps.
Additional outdoor dining could be restored by adding to the current
lower level outdoor dining (out back facing the lake).

Thank you, Kim
