Did run when changing to proton experimental, but even at the lowest possible settings and 540p resolution I was at 3 FPS in VAB/Launchpad 10 FPS on orbit not looking at Kerbin, menu and tracking station ran like butter though.
After the Conan update I unsubbed from all workshop items, updated my deck, updated Proton, validated the game files, and rebooted several times but I keep crashing at the menu / server select screen. Has anyone else had this issue and found a solution?
I was still not able to successfully launch the game in gaming mode on the deck - only desktop mode. My hypothesis is the latest update made the game even less Steam Deck compatible than it was before.
Valve had this same idea and created the operating system used on the deck, SteamOS. Using Arch Linux as its base, Valve created SteamOS for their original Steam Machines and have been refining it since, releasing version 3.0 for the release of the Steam Deck. Creating their own operating system allowed them to implement features to enhance gameplay on the deck like controlling the screens refresh rate, framerate caps, and power limits (TDP) to name a few. All of these have become integral parts of what makes the Deck such an incredible and versatile device.
I had a dream where I played DBD on the steam deck from my couch on the big screen while crunching lays tato chips and I was also a super joystick 360 juicer too. BHVR help make my dream come true!!!!
I also sometimes comment on YouTube when I see people recommending games for the Steam Deck on sale etc and I make sure people know it does not work because of easyanticheat and I at least clarify for people before they make the mistake of buying this game and not be able to play it on deck.
we already know that this server is dropping the connection, seeing that we are logging in from steam deck (linux + proton). and through unofficial egs we can play using proton from steam. we want to know why we are not allowed to play through steam
Can you ask, get an update and maybe let them know this is going to lead to negative brand recognition if they don't get it working for Steam? I mean, you could easily add a $10 upgrade for Steamdeck option if this is about money or an increase in server costs and people would gladly pay it.
Hello all, I have purchased a Steam Deck. I haven't received it yet, but I was curious to know what those of you that own one have to say about it. I'm most interested in knowing what you all have noticed in terms of game performance increases per proton update. Also would like to know everyone's opinion on the new OLED version. Just trying to get a feel for what to watch out for and what to expect.
I am unable to find how to install proton experimental bleeding-edge. I already have proton experimental installed, but it is not the bleeding-edge one. Do you have to build that yourself or is there a way to obtain it via steam?
1. Open your steam deck in desktop mode. Download anomaly 1.5.1 and extract to any location. I just made a folder on the desktop and extracted the files to the folder so they're easier to access. The extraction process can take a very long time. (you can download 1.5.2 update, extract and overwrite in main anomaly folder if you wish.)
4. Run both files at least once and do your best to exit the game. While the steam deck is great, the game will load its own somewhat "blank" controller so you'll need to find a way to close them. My trick is to just hold down steam+x for a second or two and hope the cursor registers in the game to let me exit. Also to note, while it may look like you'll be able to play Anomaly, it will probably crash with some sort of lua script error if you try to go to any menu.
5. Now we proceed with DRRACCOONS instructions from step 3 but with more guidance. In protontricks after you select the AnomalyDX11AVX.exe (should say non-steam shortcut etc.. with a blank icon), click on the radio button next to "Select the default wineprefix" and hit OK. In the next screen select "Install a Windows DLL or component" and click ok. A new box should appear with the packages you want to install. Continue to select the above d3d packages and hit OK. The windows will close but you should get errors about using 64-bit WINEPREFIX etc... That's okay. Continue hitting OK thru each of them as that's how you know they're installing. This process can also take a while. When it's finished you should see the box asking "What would you like to do to this wineprefix?" again. You can hit the upper right X or cancel out of the box as your settings should be saved.
6. From here switch BACK to gaming mode and you should see both files in steam with the blank icon. Go to AnomalyDX11AVX.exe and hit the UPPER RIGHT select button. Should look like 3 hashes above the X pad button. Scroll down and select Properties... Check that Compatibility is still checked and Proton Experimental is still selected.
Hey I followed the guide above on Linux mint 21 but when I try to run the game via the dx11 or dx9 .exe in steam wine pops up saying it cant find the user.itx (Ive run the launcher and saved my settings so this should have generated)
Also thanks for the instructions above on getting anomaly to work on the steam deck, however my experience was a bit different to get it running. I was only able to get the dlls installed on the launcher exe, the dx11avx.exe would fail and abort on installing the dlls. Aside from that the game works using the launcher all i have to do is open the keyboard to press enter while the launcher is open and the game starts right up.
i also am having issues with trying to figure this out. I've installed mods like escape from pripyat and gamma before but cant get past the steps of even running the game on steam as a non steam game. It fails immediately on stalkeranomalylauncher.exe and anomalydx11avx.exe. Protontricks seems to open but doesn't show stalker anomaly as an option to run. Not sure if its been updated since then and the process may have changed, I'm a noob to linux and am very lost. this is my favorite game of all time and would love some extra help on trying to run it. Thanks for nay and all help.
***Beforehand*** I actually had a problem getting the files to extract on the deck and this caused me to update the OS from desktop and get stuck in the boot loop. So if you don't know DO NOT UPDATE THE OS FROM DESKTOP, it is a known bug and you will need to re image from USB to fix.
Enable the multilib repository and install the steam (recommended) or alternatively the steam-native-runtime package for running Steam with native system libraries. See /Troubleshooting#Steam runtime.
The default Steam install location is /.local/share/Steam. If Steam cannot find it, it will prompt you to reinstall it or select the new location. This article uses the /.steam/root symlink to refer to the install location.
Steam installs games into a directory under LIBRARY/steamapps/common/. LIBRARY normally is /.steam/root but you can also have multiple library folders (Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders).
In order for Steam to recognize a game it needs to have anappmanifest_AppId.acf file in LIBRARY/steamapps/. The appmanifest file uses the KeyValues format and its installdir propertydetermines the game directory name.
You can also install Proton from AUR with protonAUR or proton-gitAUR, but extra setup is required for them to work with Steam. See the Proton GitHub for details on how Steam recognizes Proton installs.
Using ntfs has disadvantages. It happens often that shaders cache folder becomes corrupted. Messages saying ntfs3: sdb6 ino=1921f, steamapprun_pipeline_cache Looks like your dir is corrupt. You cannot fix that from linux. You need to boot to Windows and use chkdsk for that.
This FS has disadvantage that it is case-insensitive. You will get such message: SteamLibrary has both 'SteamApps' and 'steamapps' directories. This will cause problems. Please fix manually and only keep 'steamapps' See issue #7665
Some systems and configurations seem to have issues with HTTP2. Disabling HTTP2 will probably yield faster downloads on those configurations. You can either use the console command @nClientDownloadEnableHTTP2PlatformLinux 0 or set it in steam_dev.cfg like so:
Launching Steam with Flatpak might warn you about installing the steam-devices package. This package currently does not exist but game-devices-udevAUR can be installed instead, see Gamepad#Device permissions.
