Alternatively, from your profile, you can set your presence to Do Not Disturb to block chat notifications and let your contacts know you are currently unavailable. Calls will still come through, however, unless you turn off Show call notifications in Settings > Notifications. Learn how to control who you receive calls from.

If you close the Skype app without signing out first, you might still receive notifications. If you want to stop these notifications, you can either disable them from your Settings or sign out before you close the app.

Your computer may still play a sound for new messages even though you've turned notifications off in Skype. To stop your computer from playing a sound when you get a new Skype message, select Settings > Notifications, and then turn Notification sounds off or on.

Looking for the desktop version of this article? How do I manage notifications in Skype on desktop?

Can you tell me why my skype doesn't give any sound on chat notifications? I have win 10 pro desktop. All sounds are working fine on call and etc. The problem here is no sound on chat notification when Skype is on the taskbar. But it shows message coming notification on the taskbar icon. But no sound. Any clue?

I don't have this issue now. I didn't do anything myself for this. No idea something happened accidentally. But I strongly believe Windows latest updates fixed this issue. Now I can see and have sound through notification section when I have a skype message.

I have Skype for Windows 10. There are no options to control the volume for notification sounds either in app or the Volume Mixer on Taskbar. What am I missing? Shouldn't the Volume Mixer show a volume controller for when a sound is played by the Skype app so that I can turn it down or up?

I can hear skype calls just fine, but notifications seem to be muted. I've gone into my sound settings and whenever a notification appears, a "Skype" appears under "Applications," and it is muted. Pressing "mute" doesn't do anything, and whenever I slide the volume up, it snaps back to 0%.
I don't seen anything that could be causing it in my .Skype folder. Any ideas?

If so, did you try highlighting the notification that doesn't work, and checking "Enable Event", and then using the "Test Event" button? If the sound does not play, try going to the directory specified for the file (/usr/share/skype/sounds by default) and making sure you can play the sound.

Editadded one more step... I played around with my setup, using the Skype "Test Event" button with the sound settings open. I found that I could quickly check the mute checkbox in the applications section when it appeared - I used the "Call Connecting" event; strangely enough, many of the events never appeared in this window. The seem to be controlled by the "Alert Volume" in the "Sound Effects" tab of this same settings dialog. I remember having problems at first when this volume control slider was too low, and many Skype sounds didn't work. Are all the sounds muted in the "Test Event" page?

To hear Skype for Business sounds, select the Play sounds in Skype for Business (including ringtones for incoming alerts and IM alerts) check box, then if you'd like you can mute the sounds if you're in an IM conversation, or if your status is Busy or Do Not Disturb.

I regularly have Opera, Firefox, and Chrome running at the same time, but I have checked extensions to verify that no Skype holdout extensions exist. I have combed the registry and the sound setting to eliminate any notification using the incoming skype ringtone sound. No help yet.

Can someone tell me how to stop this random unsolicited attempt to call me through my PC, how to disable the ringing and the calls. Thanks in advance for your support

I upgraded to Skype 8.11 from 7.x and found that I am now getting audio notifications when I receive a chat message. In the previous version of Skype you had fine-grained control over the notification sounds and I had almost all of them disabled. In this version of Skype that option appears to have been removed.

Skype is a nice video calling and messaging application that many use to accomplish work-related tasks or for casual chatting. Since receiving notifications is one of the most important functions of Skype, one could understand the frustration if Skype is not making notification sounds.

Skype enables you to keep in touch with your staff and customers through free audio and video calls as well as instant messages. If you prefer not to keep the Skype windows in view all the time, you can configure the program to alert you about various events through audio warnings. For example, you can configure Skype to give you an audio warning every time you receive a message or someone calls you. Skype's sounds can be turned on and off with ease.

Yes I have the same issue, message notifications make a sound when unlocked, but not when locked, Lock Screen does not even light up when notification received. If I wake it up the notification is there.

I took out my very old iPhone se (1st gen) and started using it again, it is supposed to be compatible with iOs 15. When I get text or email it vibrates very gently, like I can feel it if I'm holding it in my hand, but no notification sounds, no ringtone when I get a call.

Like many of you, my notifications volumes was minuscule compared to the ringer volume on my iPhone 13 Pro running iOS 15.0.2.Then I found the following solution suggested (I don't remember where I found it):

I have the same issue with notification sounds not working unless the phone is unlocked. However, the notification still sounds on my watch. When I turn off Bluetooth, the notification sound works just fine.

There they suggested installing Solid Explorer and creating a folder in internal memory with the sound files I wanted.
Then when I came to change the sound notifications in Skype and in Line, I was prompted to choose Solid Explorer. This allowed me to navigate and change folders to the one I created and select my own ringtone .mp3 files.

Everything works fine. I can hear and others can hear me. But no sound notification. In options -> sound devices "Make a test sound" button is disabled. Other button show "PulseAudio server (local)". At the bottom:It appears your system has PulseAudio running: to change sound settings you need to use your desktop manager volume control or PulseAudio volume control.

Two days ago I updated my system, including the 3.13.5-1 kernel and 5.0-1 pulseaudio. When I'm using skype now, my voice gets distorted and played back much faster; "chipmunk"-style. According to I tried everything to solve the issue (setting default rates in the config file, disable usb-autosuspend, ...) but still no luck...

Thanks for your explanation .
The ALSA hint narrows the problem; recording through it with skype and the issue doesn't show up. I have tried those steps and retried them now.. and it seems that pulseaudio doesn't read it's new uncommened entry (default-sample-rate = 48000) but still tries to record at 44,1 kHz if I'm not missinterpreting this one (I'm not sure about the data because my mic is mono.. don't know nothing about the sound structure in Linux):

Edit your /usr/bin/skype script with an editor with root rights and remove the PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 which arguably has been obsoleted with the recent skype update. This fixes the chipmunk, but leaves an obnoxious static on my speakers AFTER the call because skype is too stupid to properly kill its stream, will see if I can experiment some more

For anyone interested the static returned but the cause is probably because i run notification sounds on my speakers as opposed to my headset and skype probably tries some internal resample and gehts all confused when the value differs from what it expects and with msec=60 i just give it a big enough window so that it doesn't mess up

Siderant: Bashing pulseaudio was cool 5 years ago if you still have problems like these chances that they really lie with pulse are slim and i'd be especially sceptical if the only program that gives problems is a buggy POS skype

The conferencing bridge answers a call for a user who is dialing in to a meeting using a phone. The conferencing bridge answers the caller with voice prompts from a conferencing auto attendant, and then, depending on your settings, can play notifications, ask callers to record their name, and set up the PIN security. A PIN is given to a Skype for Business meeting organizer, and it allows them to start a meeting if they can't start the meeting using the Skype for Business app. You can, however, set it so that a PIN isn't required to start a meeting.

Under Meeting join experience, select or clear Enable meeting entry and exit notifications to be turned on. This is selected by default. If you clear it, users who have already joined the meeting won't be notified when someone enters or leaves the meeting.

I have an HP Envy Touchsmart IS-j052nr Notebook PC, running Windows 8.1. When I use Skype, either through a headset or through the speakers, I am having problems with static. It sounds clear when I am speaking and when the person on the other end is speaking, but if the person on the other end does not talk for several minutes, then the static noise gets louder and louder (like hearing a huge rainstorm of falling rain) until the other person makes a sound again. The other person can also hear the static.
