Gas giant Santos says it has never encountered such radical behaviour by a small group of people as it has the Upper Hunter town of Bunnan.

Santos is exploring for coal seam gas deposits in the region.

Local Councillor Errol Bates says he has been threatened for permitting exploration on his land.
