Hi
I've been experimenting with Locify V1.05(13) for geocaching ("Nearest
Caches" service) on my Nokia 5800, and there are some bugs that I want
to report - hope this is the right place.

1. 1st time I run the app, I can get straight into it. If I close & re-
open it I get "You need to set up permissions for file reading and
writing" (even though I've already done that and the permissions are
set correctly). It's easily by-passed (using Options > Continue), but
it shouldn't happen.

2. Nearest caches > Search mode page gives me 3 options: "Nearest
caches", "Keyword", & "Podle waypointu". I can just about work out
what the last one is, but it would be nice if it was in English !

3. When I have found a cache, I want to log my visit. But when I
select the "Log your visit" option, it doesn't work. First, the screen
has "log is out of !!!" across the top. If I proceed with trying to
log the cache, I get a "Your log is OK" acknowledgement, but when I
later check on geocaching.com I find the log hasn't been posted. My
suspicion here is that there's some kind of temporary file that's full
and is blocking submission of logs.

4. Finally, what are the big ABCD buttons for ? I can't find anything
that uses them - if they're not needed, is it possible to remove these
from the screen ?

Thanks

You are right. We want to use Java API call to read the permission and
depending on it not/display this dialog.

Geocaching service is maintained by independent developer. He's
reading this group posting and I am sure he will fix it.

Same as above - I am sure he will answer the problem or fix it.

Where exactly?

Thank you

It's fixed

I fix it next time.

I don't understand exactly what it is.

Folks

Many thanks for this - "podle waypointu" has indeed gone !

The "ABCD": On my phone, the Locify home screen - and indeed every
other screen - looks like this:
1. The top half of the screen contains menu items that I can scroll &
select
2. Below that is a display a bit like a joystick - a central black
circle used for selecting menu items, with up, down, left & right
arrows.
3. Below that, across the bottom of the screen, are 4 buttons marked
"A", "B", "C", & "D". It is these that don't seem to have any
function.

If this description doesn't make any sense I'll try to post a screen
shot tomorrow (at present I don't have a screen capture app on my
phone).

Thanks

I believe I know what it is (having 5800 myself). It is probably the
on-screen keyboard provided by the operating system. It is there so that Java
applications not designed with touch-screen in mind are still controllable.

You can turn it off in the application properties. In the
settings/application manager/installed applications find Locify and second
item in suite settings is on-screen keyboard. Just turn it off.

(The menu names may not be exact -- I have the system in different language
myself)

Jan

That was exactly it - the options were "Off", "Game & Navigation
Keys", "Navig keys only". I like the joystick-analogue, so if I select
the last one then the non-functional ABCD disappear and I just have
the bits of the screen that work. Thanks for solving that.

Locify is fully controllable via touchscreen, so I prefer "Off" to get
more screen real estate for the map/lists, but it's obviously a matter
of taste.

You are welcome.

Hi again

Is it possible to fix the problem that prevents logging of cache finds
please ?

When I have found a cache, I want to log my visit. But when I select
the "Log your visit" option, it doesn't work. First, the screen has
"log is out of !!!" across the top. If I proceed with trying to log
the cache, I get a "Your log is OK" acknowledgement, but when I later
check on geocaching.com I find the log hasn't been posted. My
suspicion here is that there's some kind of temporary file that's full
and is blocking submission of logs.

Thanks !

Is there any news about when this problem might be fixed.

Thanks.
