Wednesday, May 6 | 6:30pm
In Person: North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hearst Ave
Virtual: Zoom Link

The Planning Commission will be holding a public hearing on the Corridors Zoning Update on May 6th. This is an important milestone in the process, and your awareness and input is highly valued.

Agenda Materials: Zoom link and agenda will be posted here: https://berkeleyca.gov/your-government/boards-commissions/planning-commissionClick the dropdown arrow next to May 6 to access the materials, which will be available approximately one week prior to the meeting.

What will be discussed

At this hearing, the Commission will review and provide direction on:
  • targeted zoning approach focused on a limited number of sites along the corridors
  • New development standards (height, density, and building form) that would apply only to those sites
  • Ground floor requirements to support active commercial spaces
  • Potential small business support and displacement mitigation strategies.

The project aims to balance housing growth with maintaining vibrant, locally-serving commercial corridors.
Sound in Visions: Music is the Muse - ACCI Gallery Exhibition
May 2 - May 31
ACCI Gallery | 1652 Shattuck Ave

About the Exhibition:  Auditory and visual art have often had a symbiotic, intertwining relationship. Both use composition, rhythm, harmony, texture, and movement to communicate. Each distinct expression sparks creativity within the other—highlighting, contrasting, even blending into one another. We think of works by Matisse, Kandinsky and Stuart Davis transforming sound and rhythm into color and brushstroke; the breathtaking use of deconstructed instruments in sculptures by Armand. Artists have long captured musicians in portraiture, or become musicians themselves by creating their own instruments. As commentary or collaboration, music and visual art make a compelling pair. Let the music be your muse!

Saturday, May 23: Live music, rock n roll face painting, and haircuts with Rocky Angel, Electric Chaircut, Theresa Currie, and Jason Stamburger.

Saturday, May 30: Closing Reception from 3-6pm with performances by Christine Shields and Agness Twin.

Business Spotlight: Tigerlily
Tigerlily | 1513 Shattuck Ave
Open Daily, 5-9:30pm

Tigerlily began a new chapter in 2019, when they took over the space with a simple but ambitious vision—to create something that felt both familiar and unexpected. they wanted a place where the bold, vibrant flavors of India could meet the fresh, seasonal spirit of California.

From day one, Tigerlily has been about balance. The kitchen blends traditional Indian inspiration with modern California creativity—bringing together spices, textures, and techniques in a way that feels approachable yet distinctive. Every dish reflects that philosophy: rooted in heritage, but never limited by it.

Over the years, Tigerlily has grown into more than just a restaurant. It has become a neighborhood gathering place—a spot for celebrations, casual dinners, and everything in between. What makes it special isn’t just the food, but the people who walk through the doors and make it part of their routine.

The bar has always been at the heart of the Tigerlily experience. From handcrafted cocktails to a thoughtfully curated selection of wines and spirits, they approach the beverage program with the same creativity and care as the kitchen.

They have also focused on building a welcoming bar atmosphere—one where guests can drop in for a quick drink, explore something new, or settle in for the evening. It’s a space that reflects who they are: vibrant, relaxed, and always evolving.

To bring the community together even more, they offer Happy Hour every day from 5 to 6pm—an inviting time to unwind with specially priced cocktails, wine, and bites in a lively, relaxed setting.

Tigerlily will be a participating location at Taste of North Berkeley - make sure to stop by to say hi and grab a sample of their delicious bites and drinks!

Thank You for Coming to the Swap n' Shop!

On Saturday, April 18th, the whole North Shattuck community came together to celebrate Earth Day and enjoy a day of second-hand swapping and shopping, browsing sidewalk sales, and centering sustainability. People got to find some old-yet-new goodies like clothing, shoes, books, accessories, tools, art supplies, and more, while also getting rid of things that no longer serve them. Vintage Berkeley hosted a fun after-party with a vinyl record sale and swap, music playing all afternoon on vinyls, and organically farmed wine refreshments.

Thank you to all the North Shattuck businesses who participated by hosting sidewalk sales and other activities: The Filling Station, ACCI Gallery, Vintage Berkeley, Treasures of Tibet, M. Lowe & Co., Ceci Bowman Designs, and Ritual Health Acupuncture & Herbalism.

Keep celebrating Earth Day all year long in North Shattuck! There are so many neighborhood businesses that are eco-friendly and center sustainability. If you haven't already, check out The Filling Station and start making the switch to zero-waste products in your house. There are countless ways to reduce waste and live sustainably, and The Filling Station has tons of options to reduce single-use items in your kitchen, bathroom, pantry, and other areas of your home and life.
North Shattuck Shines Brighter

The North Shattuck Association is excited to unveil vibrant new street-lining bistro lighting along the Shattuck corridor, with coverage extending from Vine Street through Delaware Street, including an additional installation on Vine Street at Walnut Square.

Spanning approximately 2,800 linear feet along both sides of the street, these warm, glowing lights add a festive charm, brightening storefronts, enhancing visibility, and creating a safer, more inviting atmosphere for evening strolls, dining, and shopping.

Designed for both beauty and reliability, the energy-efficient LED lighting shines consistently year-round, while smart timers and built-in battery backup ensure seamless operation with minimal maintenance.

This project is a bright investment in our district’s vitality, supporting stakeholders, encouraging increased customer activity, and bringing a welcoming glow to North Shattuck day and night.

Come out, take a stroll, and enjoy the sparkle!
