Hi All,

Interesting. Thanks Margot for sharing. To reiterate SPA needs a bit more attention from folks. Sincerely, things can really take a bad turn there. 

There is considerable opposition to highrise buildings on San Pablo Avenue. The difference is that for some reason people in West Berkeley don't think:

1- they have any power to change anything

2- they have given up having lived through the awful air pollution issues caused by PSC and within the past 5 years, the Asphalt Plant

3- the people who live East of Sacramento who have had a hold on D1 politics

4- the income levels near SPA are lower than in other parts of the city. 

5- the city has let the area deteriorate in particular ways that would make most people say "build anything" (we have evidence)

I agree. the concerns of SPA should be included. The issues are City wide and segmenting one part of Berkeley off from another does not build an inclusive movement.
