Dear Community Member:

Mayor Ishii invites you to participate in two community events she is hosting on Saturday, April 11, 2026. Please join us if you can, and feel free to spread to word to anyone who might be interested.

EVENT 1

Wildfire Prevention Clean-up

Saturday, April 11, 2026
9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Location: Near Tilden Park, Grizzly Peak area, exact meet up location will be shared closer to the date.

Help our community become more fire safe by volunteering at a wildfire prevention clean up hosted by Mayor Ishii's BerkeleyCorps* and HelpBerkeley**.
The number of very large, difficult to control, wildfires per year in CA has tripled since the 1960s. Berkeley is particularly exposed to uncontrollable wildfires coming from Tilden Park in NE winds, in conditions classified by the City of Berkeley as Extreme Fire Weather.

By creating a hardened defense against wildfire, Berkeley aims to protect residents from windblown embers that can ignite homes and trigger structure-to-structure fires, like those seen in Southern California in 2025.

Close to 50% of the homeowners in the area are seniors on fixed income, often with conditions that do not allow them to conduct wildfire mitigation activities on their own. That’s where you come in to help!

Duties will include gathering debris, brush trimming, weed cutting, and collecting vegetation. Tools and snacks will be provided.

A volunteer coordinator either from HelpBerkeley or BerkeleyCorps will reach out with more information as the date approaches.

*BerkeleyCorps is a new initiative in Berkeley launched by Mayor Adena Ishii earlier this year on MLK Day of Service, mobilizing over 100 volunteers. BerkeleyCorps serves as a hub of opportunities for residents and volunteers to get involved in areas of work that they are most passionate about in the City of Berkeley.

**HelpBerkeley is an established community service organization that provides grassroots support to Berkeley residents. During Covid HelpBerkeley volunteers delivered hundreds of thousands of meals to shut-in Berkeley residents, primarily seniors. HelpBerkeley has been active in wildfire prevention and safety since 2023.

EVENT 2

Regeneration & Renewal 2026
Public Art Reception

Saturday April 11, 2026
4:30 PM - 6:00 PM

Berkeley Art Center
1275 Walnut Street

Join Mayor Ishii for the public reception of Regeneration & Renewal 2026, celebrating our selected artist awardees and the beginning of something we hope will last well beyond this exhibition.
This event marks the start of a shared space where Berkeley artists, creatives, and culture bearers can directly connect with city officials, the civic arts, and each other.

A common gathering point for the artists who make this city what it is. In partnership with our city's local art pillar Berkeley Art Center and their pilot initiative "Open Center: Artists & Community", we're opening the doors of this event to artists, local businesses, neighbors, and anyone who believes in Berkeley's creative future.

Come for the art, stay for the conversations, the tea, the workspace, and the community.  Open to all. RSVP recommended.
